KNOLL CHERMAYEFF STORAGE RESHAPES THE 1961 CREDENZA

Knoll Chermayeff Storage, announced September 23, 2026, is billed as Florence Knoll's 1961 credenza moving into the home, but its spec sheet shows a line cut to new heights that is still sold to offices. Sam Chermayeff's bar cabinet is 35.5 inches wide, the same width as Knoll's High Credenza, and stands 57 inches tall against that piece's 43.1. Knoll's product page offers workplace buyers contract pricing through showrooms and dealers, and lets residential buyers order online.

The line has five pieces, a bookcase, a bar cabinet, a console, a side table and a coffee table, in seven finishes at launch: four veneers and three lacquers. Wallpaper reports that the UK and EU release is set for November 2026.

A 57 Inch Bar Cabinet Against a 43 Inch Credenza

Knoll lists the Chermayeff bookcase at 72 inches high, 42 wide and 15 deep, and the bar cabinet at 57 high, 35.5 wide and 18 deep. Florence Knoll's low credenzas stand 25.4 inches high, so the bookcase, the bar cabinet and the console all rise well above the original.

MillerKnoll's listing puts the console at 29.3 inches high, 60 wide and 15 deep, against 74.75 inches wide and 18 deep for Knoll's large four cabinet credenza. The coffee table is 14.5 inches high, 40 wide and 24 deep. The Knoll credenza page quotes Florence Knoll calling her credenzas fill in pieces that no one else wanted to do.

The construction stays put. Knoll's page lists polished chrome frames, clear glass shelves, push to open drawers and marble, wood or lacquer tops, and the Florence Knoll Credenza, designed in 1961, stands on a polished chrome steel base. Wallpaper adds that the bar has a mirrored top half and a glass rack, and that all five pieces are finished on all sides.

Iris and Dark Python Were Already on the Credenza

Knoll's September 23 release describes new lacquers in Dark Red Ultra, Dark Python and Iris. Knoll's current Florence Knoll Credenza page lists Iris and Dark Python lacquers too, along with a Dark Red Lacquer, so the newness sits in Dark Red Ultra and in where the colors are applied.

Wallpaper singles out the bar cabinet in Dark Red Ultra, and MillerKnoll shows the coffee table in Dark Python lacquer with Verde Alpi marble. The veneers are White Oak, Oxford Walnut, Umber on Oak and Ebonized Oak, and the tops come in eight marbles, polished or satin coated. Chermayeff told Wallpaper he likes a lighter top over a darker body, but not too dark. MillerKnoll's console page pairs an Iris lacquer base with a Carrara marble top, a light stone over a deep color.

Ivan Chermayeff Set Knoll's Graphics Before His Son Set Its Storage

Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar developed Knoll's graphic identity standards in the early 1990s, and Ivan's son Sam now designs furniture for the same company. Sam Chermayeff told Wallpaper that he remembers a Florence Knoll credenza in his father's office.

His own training runs through SANAA, where he began his career and worked on the 2009 Serpentine Pavilion and the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale. He studied at the University of Texas at Austin and the Architectural Association in London, and he runs Sam Chermayeff Office. Jonathan Olivares, Knoll's Creative Director, put the project's claim in the September 23 release: "The result introduces a new third category: adaptive reuse."

The dimensions bear that sentence out. Florence Knoll's Planning Unit, which she directed from 1943 to 1965, completed more than 70 office interiors, including IBM, GM and CBS, and Knoll's page says the credenza collection was meant to furnish postwar American office interiors. A restoration would keep the 25.4 inch height; a new typology gives you a 57 inch bar and a 14.5 inch table from one family of chrome, stone and lacquer.

Herman Miller Made a Different Hire on June 3

Herman Miller named Kim Colin and Sam Hecht its Global Creative Directors on June 3, 2026. Their London studio is Industrial Facility, and their partnership with the brand began in 2006, according to the MillerKnoll announcement.

Herman Miller, which like Knoll sits under MillerKnoll, promoted two designers it had worked with for two decades 112 days before Knoll announced Chermayeff's collection. Chermayeff arrived through a different door: an architect whose father developed the company's graphic standards.

Knoll's product page lists the Florence Knoll Credenza as a related product beside his line, and the numbers say the two do different jobs: a 25.4 inch credenza for the wall of an office, and a 57 inch bar cabinet that shares its 35.5 inch width with the High Credenza and adds nearly 14 inches of height.
