DANIEL ARSHAM MADE ONLY NINE RSA RACING JACKETS

Nine jackets exist, and eight of them are already spoken for. The one that surfaced this week in Daniel Arsham's studio archive is a cropped chocolate brown corduroy racing jacket, chenille crest stitched to the back, lettering chain stitched across the chest in the block serif of a 1970s letterman patch. Arsham made it in 2022 as the wearable half of a full sized project: a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS he rebuilt and renamed the Carrera RSA.

Arsham sized the run for a garage of nine people he chose himself, no waitlist, no cart, just a list of names he decided should have one.

Chocolate Brown Corduroy, Cut Like a Letterman Jacket

The corduroy is wide wale, cut from the bolt used to trim the RSA's interior, so the jacket and the car's cabin share a fabric swatch. Arsham cropped the body short, closer to a bomber than a barn coat, and set a chenille Porsche crest on the back panel, hand applied rather than machine embroidered. The graphics across the front and sleeves are hand chain stitched, a slower, looping technique borrowed from vintage racing jackets and varsity letterman jackets of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the decade the RSA project imagines.

Arsham has said the whole object started with a question about clothing, not cars. In the caption accompanying the archive post he wrote, "The concept grew out of imagining the car in 1970s New York, from what I would wear while driving it to the music I would be listening to." The jacket answers the wardrobe half of that question. A parallel playlist has never surfaced.

The Carrera RSA Runs Yellow, the Jacket Runs Brown

The Carrera RSA is Arsham's restomod of a 1973 Porsche 911, a year when the factory built roughly 1,580 Carrera RS 2.7 cars total. Arsham repainted his in gloss yellow with pale yellow bumpers, a nod to the RSR race cars of that era, and ran light blue pinstriping through the badges and custom Arsham wheels. Inside, the same chocolate brown corduroy from the jacket lines the seats, with RSA stitched into the headrests. Mattel later scaled the whole car down to a 1:64 Hot Wheels model, corduroy texture and all.

It is not the only Porsche Arsham has put his name on. An Eroded 992 GT3 Cup wrapped in his crystal erosion graphics raced a Carrera Cup France grid in 2023, and a mint green 1991 964 he imported from Japan reached the studio earlier this year. The RSA sits earliest in that run and closest to the body. It is the only one of the group with a jacket built to match it.

Four Went to a Scholarship Auction, Five Went to Friends

Only four of the nine RSA Racing Jackets ever reached the public. StockX ran them through a DropX auction from January 28 to January 31, 2022, with proceeds funding the Daniel Arsham x StockX Next Gen Scholarship at The Cooper Union, where Arsham himself studied on a full scholarship. The last recorded sale on that listing closed at 1,851 dollars. The remaining five jackets never touched the resale market. Arsham gave them directly to friends, naming two in the caption: the Bridgehampton Motoring Club and a collector known online as Mistermort.

That split, four sold for tuition money and five kept off the grid entirely, is the whole reason a 2022 jacket is showing up in a studio archive post in September 2026 instead of a StockX listing page. Most of the run was never for sale to begin with.

Nine Is Not a Drop. It Is a Guest List.

StockX shows no active asks on the RSA Racing Jacket listing today, only a bid history that closed at 1,851 dollars back in 2022. Arsham built nine, sold four through the scholarship auction and gave five away outright, so the market for it now runs entirely on what a bidder is willing to offer a stranger for a jacket that was never meant to circulate. What is left is a chocolate brown object that matches the inside of a Porsche most people will never sit in, worn by nine people who were told, not sold, to have one.
