3HOUSE'S STONE ISLAND JACKET GETS A ONE OF ONE PAINT JOB

Skepta opened Stone Island's Autumn Winter 026 campaign in a Dense Oxford Nylon jacket, answering Hans Ulrich Obrist's questions about his mother and the meaning of freedom. Five subjects and six weeks later, after Stephen Graham's sprayed lambskin coach jacket, Community as a Form of Research has reached 3House, the Tokyo R&B act behind 2023's Swing A Soul. She is wearing Q100031, a Hand Painted David Light TC parka that Stone Island's Research Department dyes once by machine, then finishes a second time by hand, making her the first Community as a Form of Research subject this season whose jacket gets its last visible step from a person instead of a process.

3House Sang for Stone Island Before She Wore It

3House performed a Stone Island Sound special live set at Shibuya PARCO's sixth anniversary celebration on November 21, 2025, ten months before this campaign portrait ran. Stone Island Sound is the brand's own music platform, run alongside its ready to wear line as a separate arm of the label, and 3House was already booked inside that platform before the caption named her as a Community as a Form of Research subject this September.

Her 2023 debut album, Swing A Soul, topped Japan's R&B streaming chart, and 2024's single After Rain became a viral hit that carried her past a niche R&B and hip hop audience into festival bookings and features with other singers. That order, music platform first, ready to wear campaign second, is different from how Stone Island cast Skepta or Stephen Graham, both photographed as figures menswear press already covers. 3House arrives from the label's music side of the community, which is the cross vertical proof behind a campaign that keeps insisting its subjects come from more than one world.

David Light TC Is Dyed Under Pressure at 130 Degrees

David Light TC starts as a lightweight tela woven from Japanese polyester and polyamide yarn with a star shaped cross section, cut and sewn before any color is added. Stone Island garment dyes the finished jacket, not the fabric before it is cut, under pressure at 130 degrees Celsius, with an anti drop agent mixed in so the color will not shed or migrate afterward.

That heat and pressure step alone would already read as a finished Research Department garment. Q100031 adds a second stage on top of it: two shades of pigment mixed with a polyurethane binder, applied by hand with sponges and brushes once the dye has already cured, a step that happens to a single jacket rather than to a bolt of fabric before cutting.

Two Pigments, One Brush, No Two Jackets Alike

Every Q100031 jacket looks slightly different because the hand painting happens piece by piece after assembly, not as a printed pattern run across fabric before the jacket is cut. Two pigment shades go on with sponges and brushes over the already dyed base, and how much coverage, blending and brush direction each piece gets is not standardized between units.

The caption crediting 3House describes the jacket as a Hand Painted David Light TC piece, padded and short, with a contoured padded drawstring hood, angled hand pockets, adjustable cuffs and an offset two way zip closure with a secondary half zip. Retailers listing the Q100031 code separately describe a two way front zip that extends into gussets concealing entry pockets, snap fastened standing hand pockets, underarm eyelets for ventilation and a drawcord hem. The caption was not simplifying the garment. It was describing the construction, detail for detail.

Samir Bantal Wore the Heavier Version First

Samir Bantal, the architect who directs OMA's research studio AMO, wore Stone Island's 4100062 David TC Ghost parka on September 10, ten days before 3House's Q100031 portrait appeared under the same campaign hashtags. His jacket ran the standard weight David TC tela through Stone Island's heat and pressure dye process and stopped there. No hand painting, no second pigment stage, just the postconstruction dye Stone Island has run through nearly every AW26 Research Department piece this season.

3House's Q100031 takes that fabric family down to a lighter tela and adds hand finishing on top of it, which makes her jacket the more labor heavy of the two despite using the lighter cloth. She is the second David TC face Community as a Form of Research has put in front of a camera this season, and the first one where a human hand, not a heat press, did the last visible step.

Everything on This Jacket Changes Except the Badge

One detail on 3House's sleeve has not changed since Skepta's first campaign portrait: the Stone Island badge meaning traces to a wind rose compass copied from founder Massimo Osti's own sailboat, adopted in 1982 and attached with two snap buttons instead of stitching, so it can be removed. Every fabric under that badge this season has been different. The badge itself has not moved in over four decades.

3House is the fifth Community as a Form of Research subject this season, after Skepta's Dense Oxford Nylon portrait, Fakemink's resin finished Q100027, Samir Bantal's Ghost parka and Stephen Graham's sprayed lambskin coach. Four different Research Department finishes, then a fifth built around a human hand instead of a machine step. That is not a coincidence written for a caption. It is early evidence that Stone Island is willing to let a person, not just a dye vat, become the newest variable in a research process that has run on chemistry alone for four decades.
