VISVIM MOTORS CLUB LETS MR PORTER PAST THE FLAGSHIP

Visvim Motors Club has sold through exactly one channel since 2023, and it was never a website. Every capsule went straight to visvim's own flagship doors in Carmel, Tokyo and a handful of other cities, no wholesale, no online exclusives elsewhere. That three year run just broke. Mr Porter is releasing its own exclusive edit of Motors Club 2026, the first time the line has ever handed a piece of itself to a retailer outside visvim, and the product codes attached to the release, five separate SKUs from a jacket to a shoe, confirm it is a five piece assortment, not a single hero item.

Three Years of One Door Only

Visvim Motors Club launched in Carmel at the end of summer 2023, the same week as Monterey Car Week, and every capsule since has sold exclusively through visvim's own flagship stores. The 2025 drop paired a leather stadium jacket with a Kurume Kasuri ikat shirt carrying a checkered flag print, sold only inside those same doors. That status logic runs through a 1977 Porsche 911 surviving with its original thermoreactor intact, where unmodified originality does more work than anything a wide release could add. Hiroki Nakamura built the whole premise around clothes tested on his own vintage cars and motorcycles instead of styled to look like they belonged near one, and the flagship only distribution has always been part of that logic. A garage jacket anyone could order online stops proving the wearer has a garage. visvim's broader material case runs on natural indigo dyeing and boro style patchwork that repairs cloth instead of replacing it, and Motors Club leans on that habit too, favoring Japanese textiles like Kurume Kasuri over branding or graphic prints.

Mr Porter Gets Its Own Cut, Not the Leftovers

The Mr Porter edit is not a rerun of what ships to Carmel. It centers on the Somer Swing Top Cords jacket, a jumbo tee cut and sew, VMC driving suit pants, VMC driving gloves and the VMC Driver Folk shoe, styled by Nakamura and his wife Kelsi, who runs visvim's WMV line day to day. Keisuke Fukamizu shot it, with hair and makeup by Hiroko Claus. The five pieces named in the release, the cords jacket, the jumbo tee, the driving suit, the gloves and the Driver Folk shoe, read as a complete outfit, not a scattered assortment, the kind of edit a retailer gets when it is treated as a collaborator instead of a customer. Giving one retailer its own product mix, instead of just a slice of the flagship assortment, is a bigger concession than plain wholesale would be. It says Mr Porter earned a seat at the table Nakamura builds the collection around, not just a shelf to sell it from.

The First Release Still Stays Home

Visvim has not abandoned the flagship logic entirely. The initial VMC 2026 release still goes out through visvim's own stores in North America and Japan first, with the Mr Porter capsule arriving as a separate, retailer specific edit instead of a simultaneous wide release. That sequencing matters. Nakamura is not opening Motors Club to wholesale broadly. He picked one retailer, gave it a distinct product cut, and kept the flagship channel as the primary release, which reads less like a strategy reversal than one deliberate exception carved out for a single name.

One Exception Does Not End the Rule

A three year exclusivity run does not need to survive one partnership to matter, and this one probably will not trigger a wider retail expansion on its own. Mr Porter has carried visvim's main line for years already, per its own designer directory, which makes it the retailer with the longest standing relationship to lean on for a first exception, the kind of trust Kapital extends to its own 12oz aloha print jacket rather than a factory just running someone else's pattern. Motors Club still has no standalone store, no wide release, and no announced second retailer. What changed is narrower than it looks: one retailer, one exclusive edit, one capsule cycle. The flagship only rule held for three straight years before Mr Porter became the first name allowed past it, and that detail, not the driving gloves or the cords jacket, is what moved this week.
