Rick Owens And Dr. Martens Reach Collaboration Number Five

Five. That's the count now on Rick Owens and Dr. Martens' collaboration, and round five goes live today, 18 September, at 9 AM EST, 9 PM HKT, on hbx.com.

The partnership started in 2021. It has since added a run of releases roughly once a year, which in a category built on quarterly drops is its own kind of statement.

This one is called Quad Sole. Three styles carry it: the Pull-On Boot, the Steel Toe Boot, and the Megalace Mule, all built for the Fall/Winter 2026 season.

Five Drops Deep, The Formula Still Holds

Owens' first Dr. Martens release reworked the 1460 with crisscrossed lacing and a Bex platform sole. A second round the same year raised the tongue and added a heavy zip and longer laces, then a third took over the 1460 and 1918 shapes outright before a fourth arrived in 2024. Four collaborations in three years, and now a fifth, kept swapping proportions and hardware onto the same handful of Dr. Martens silhouettes without ever touching the brand's core AirWair identity.

That restraint is the whole trick. Dr. Martens doesn't hand its sole unit to just anyone, and its non collab business is doing fine without Owens: shoe revenue climbed 19 percent across its 2026 fiscal year to reach 31 percent of total sales, with the Adrian tassel loafer alone growing pairs sold by 24 percent. The Owens line sits on top of a brand that does not need it, which is why it has lasted five rounds instead of one.

Three Styles Split The Collection's Attitude

The Pull-On Boot is the plainest read: a tall slip on shape stacked on Dr. Martens' chunky sole unit, more about height and weight than hardware. The Steel Toe Boot goes industrial, a protective toe cap under waxed leather with long laces that wrap the ankle instead of just tying it. The Megalace Mule is the outlier, an open heel shape carrying Owens' oversized signature lacing.

Owens applies the same appetite for engineered materials to his mainline. His Fall/Winter 2026 Tower collection ran on LWG certified grainy cow leather tanned in Italy's Veneto region; the Quad Sole capsule's waxed uppers come from the same instinct to treat leather as a material to be pushed rather than just worn.

None of the three styles hides the Dr. Martens sole unit under Owens' shapes the way a licensing deal usually flattens a partner brand's identity. The quad stack stays visibly Dr. Martens even when the silhouette above it reads as pure Owens, which is the detail that keeps this collaboration legible to two very different customer bases at once.

Steel Toe Boot Leans Into Workwear Territory

Of the three, the Steel Toe Boot is doing the most translation work. It takes a protective detail, the steel cap, and turns it into a design element for a customer who has probably never needed one on a job site. Utility, borrowed as texture, is what the whole collaboration runs on.

It's a move other industries recognize. A long running video game franchise doesn't reboot every sequel, it ships a numbered entry that changes just enough to justify the price of admission while keeping the mechanics fans already trust. Quad Sole is round five of the same engine.

The Megalace Mule sits on the opposite end of that spectrum. There's no protective cap to justify, no job site logic to borrow from, just an open heel and laces scaled up past the point of function. Between the two, the Steel Toe Boot is the one doing the harder sell, because it has to convince a fashion customer that a construction detail is worth wearing without ever going near a construction site.

HBX Carries The Only Confirmed Online Window

HBX has the collection live today at 9 AM EST, 9 PM Hong Kong time, a scheduling choice that clears both a US morning and an Asian evening audience in the same hour. Broader trade coverage has floated Dr. Martens' own retail network rolling the collection out this week too, but the HBX window is the one confirmed at time of writing.

Pricing for this drop hasn't been posted publicly by either brand as of release. It's also not the only Dr. Martens collaboration story moving this month; the brand's Lowell Chukka in Mayhem leather landed in August, proof the collab calendar rarely sits empty.

Quad Sole Reads As Underrated, Not Loud

Call this one underrated. Five collaborations in four years without a single viral resale spike isn't a failure, it's a pairing that doesn't need hype cycles to justify its own existence. Compare that pace to a streetwear label chasing a new collaborator every quarter just to stay visible, and Quad Sole starts to look like the more disciplined bet.

Expect a sixth round before Fall/Winter 2027 ships, and expect it to keep the same three style logic that's carried Quad Sole: one plain boot, one workwear boot, one experimental shape. The Pull-On Boot and the Megalace Mule already show which end of that spectrum Owens keeps stretching.
