PATTA GIVES THE CROCS CLASSIC CLOG A VIBRAM LUG SOLE

Patta and Crocs release the Classic Clog EXP on September 18 in Camo and Black, and Crocs handed over more than a logo pack this time. It handed over the sole. Patta swapped the shoe's molded Croslite foam base for a lugged Vibram unit, a component Crocs almost never licenses to outside labels, and that single substitution says more about where the clog is headed than a fresh charm ever could.

Crocs has spent 2026 treating its clog as a blank canvas for other brands to decorate, colorways and charms while the shoe underneath went untouched. Patta is the first collaborator handed the engineering instead.

September 18. Two Colorways. One Vibram Lug.

The Classic Clog EXP goes on sale September 18 through Patta, Crocs and a short list of select retailers, in store and online. Two pairs make up the pack. Desert Camo pairs a two tone camouflage upper with a black Vibram outsole and a matching black Patta charm. Black keeps the entire clog in one shade, broken up by a silver Patta charm on the strap and a small yellow Vibram logo at the heel. Both retail at 90 dollars, matching what Crocs charged for Brain Dead's Echo II collaboration three weeks earlier, and that is nearly double the roughly 50 dollar price of a base Classic Clog before any collaboration markup. Removable Patta Jibbitz cover both uppers, including an oversized dripping logo charm that changes color between the two pairs, with more branding worked into the heel, footbed and strap hardware. It is new ground for Patta too. The brand's collaboration list runs through Nike, Timberland and Carhartt WIP, not novelty footwear.

A Vibram Lug Sole Replaces Crocs' Molded Foam

Patta's Classic Clog EXP drops Crocs' molded Croslite foam base for a lugged Vibram outsole, a rare pairing for a shoe built on cheap foam. Vibram has built mountaineering and work boot soles out of Italy since 1937, and a garden clog sits far outside its usual customer list. Patta's version keeps the recognizable rounded upper but makes the same swap Padmore & Barnes made on its p404 boot in July, trading a soft crepe sole for Vibram traction. Vibram vets which brands get to carry its name on an outsole, so its logo on a Croslite clog reads as Crocs vouching for a use beyond garden chores. On a shoe built for showers and yard work, that swap is not decorative. It is the difference between a clog that survives a wet Amsterdam sidewalk and one that does not.

Bape and Brain Dead decorated the Classic Clog's surface this year. Patta is the first of the three to touch what is underneath it. Salehe Bembury started this pattern in December 2021 with the fingerprint tread of the Pollex Clog, and Crocs has been auditioning who gets to touch the shoe ever since. Bape colored a Crocs Echo RO clog in Color Camo for 110 dollars in May. Brain Dead reworked the Echo II and the Trailbreak 2 in August, selling through its own store a day before HBX carried them. Crocs used to just tolerate a parade of collaborators. Now it is auditioning who gets to change the shoe itself.

Patta Already Runs Four Stores Built for This

Patta has released twice in eight days, first a Corduroy Bomber out of its Amsterdam flagship on September 10, now a Crocs collaboration with a functional sole upgrade. Founders Edson Sabajo and Guillaume Schmidt started as a DJ and an MC in Amsterdam's hip hop scene before opening Patta's first store in 2004, and the brand still treats a release like a record drop, limited pressing, then gone. Patta has built four stores since, in Amsterdam, London, Lagos and, until this month, Milan, closed after more than seven years in the city, and the September 18 release will move through that four store network plus Crocs itself. A Vibram sole under a garden shoe is a strange place to make a statement. Patta made it anyway, and Crocs let them. Call it early, but a Vibram sole under a Crocs upper reads like a category, not a stunt, if Crocs keeps handing it out.
