Patta x BEAMS Varsity Jacket Weighs In at 637 GSM

The Patta x BEAMS 50th Anniversary Varsity Jacket went on sale Friday, October 30, 2026 in one colour, Potter's Clay, with a wool blend body that Patta lists at 637 GSM and sleeves cut from cowhide. It marks BEAMS turning 50 in 2026, and it is sold online and in four stores across Amsterdam, London, Lagos and Tokyo.

637 GSM Wool, Cowhide Sleeves, YKK Snaps

Patta's spec sheet gives the body as 40% wool and 60% polyester at 637 GSM, which is about 19 ounces per square yard, a proper outerwear weight. The sleeves and the hanger loop are 100% cowhide leather. The jacket has a bomber fit, ribbed 2x1 cuffs, hem and collar, a YKK flat metal snap button front, and welt and interior pockets. The lining is diamond quilted satin polyester with polyester fill, and Patta lists the jacket as made in China.

The front carries Patta and BEAMS branded patches and artworks that combine embroidery and chenille. The back has branded patches and BEAMS artworks. That is the standard varsity grammar, wool body, leather sleeves, raised chenille, and Patta and BEAMS keep to it instead of reinventing the form.

Do the math the way you would at a rack. The body is majority polyester, so the leather sleeves, the chenille work and the weight of the cloth carry the price. Patta lists the jacket at €428 in the Netherlands, £364 in the UK and $478 in the US, and a press write up cites ¥79,200 in Japan. The US page showed the jacket as coming soon. Some resellers describe a different build with a viscose lining at far lower prices; Patta's own cowhide and satin spec is the one to trust.

Patta and BEAMS Shared a Vans Old Skool in 2015

BEAMS was founded in Harajuku in 1976, which makes 2026 its 50th year, and the company has spent the year handing out anniversary collaborations. The list includes an Arc'teryx FW26 collection called KOYO that also marks 25 years of that partnership, a JanSport and Eastpak hybrid pack, Mountain Hardwear SS26 T shirts and a Levi's x Loopwheeler release. The anniversary closes with BEAMS PARK at Yoyogi National Stadium on February 6, 2027. Most of that list comes from outdoor and workwear names such as Arc'teryx, Mountain Hardwear and Levi's, which makes a wool and cowhide varsity the traditional garment in the set.

Patta has worked with the shop before. In 2015 Patta, BEAMS and Vans released a three way Old Skool, the Mean Eyed Cat, through a Harajuku pop up and select BEAMS stores in Japan. Patta has also made a packable jacket with C.P. Company that BEAMS sold exclusively in Japan at BEAMS T Harajuku and online, and a Tommy Jeans capsule that BEAMS carried exclusively there. A varsity jacket in 2026 puts Patta back in Harajuku on the shop's birthday.

BEAMS knows the garment too. BEAMS Plus released its own leather sleeved Varsity with END. in 2022, so the shop was already in the category before Patta arrived with chenille.

Retail follows that geography. Patta's anniversary page lists patta.nl, beams.co.jp, the Patta app, Patta's chapter stores in Amsterdam, London and Lagos, and BEAMS Harajuku. The HOKA x BEAMS Bondi 7 in brown and bone, covered on July 31, was another BEAMS collaboration this summer.

Third Patta Jacket Since September 12

The varsity is the third Patta jacket release in seven weeks. The Corduroy Bomber went on sale Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 13:00 CEST as the Milan chapter closed, and the Leather Hooded Bomber followed on October 9 in Black and Moonless Night. Between them Patta put out the Classic Clog EXP with Crocs on September 18 and an AW26 instalment through its Amsterdam, London and Lagos chapter stores on September 25, so the jacket arrives in the middle of a crowded autumn calendar rather than at the start of one.

It also lands six days after another wool and leather varsity. The UNDEFEATED x BAPE Varsity Jacket went on sale October 24, listed as wool and leather with embroidery, patches and numbering. Patta has been here before. Its December 2025 capsule with Joe Freshgoods, as Hypebeast described it, was built around a varsity jacket with leather sleeves and chenille patches, which makes the BEAMS jacket Patta's second varsity in under a year.

Patta's product page listed XL and XXL as out of stock when the jacket went on sale.
