Off White Be Right Back Trail Gets Vibram Lugs

Off White's Be Right Back Trail puts a Vibram Traction Lug outsole under a sneaker that started life as a city runner, and the new version is now available at Off White's website and select retailers worldwide. Italian trade coverage describes it as the Be Right Back with a trail sole, offered in low top and high top versions from October 2026. It is at least the sixth Vibram soled shoe to reach the market since March.

Micro Reliefs Along the Edge of Every Lug

Lugs are the raised blocks on an outsole that bite into soft ground, and the Vibram Traction Lug is a three dimensional lug design with micro reliefs cut along the edges of each lug to improve grip on varied terrain. Press coverage of the Trail cites Vibram's own data: traction raised by up to 25 percent and contact surface increased by up to 50 percent. Those are manufacturer figures, and a Chiruca page describing the same technology gives the 25 percent number as tested with Heelux's traction kit against soles with smooth lugs, depending on the terrain.

Off White describes the pair in its own words as carrying "traces of an imagined terrain," turning movement into part of the silhouette. The brand's note names Vibram Traction Lug technology and nothing else about the upper, so the details of the materials are not yet published in the coverage reviewed.

Be Right Back Began as the Successor to Out of Office

The shoe underneath has its own lineage. Be Right Back was introduced as the spiritual successor to Off White's Out of Office sneaker from 2020, a low top built from mesh panels and rubber leather detailing in an old school running shape. The first colorways paid tribute to four cities, New York, Milan, Paris and Miami, which gave the shoe a travel theme before it was ever given a trail sole. Italian coverage of the Trail dates the original Be Right Back to 2024.

The Trail keeps that shape and changes the part that touches the ground. The upper and the shape stay as they were, and the outsole becomes a lugged Vibram unit.

Six Vibram Soles Since March

The Trail lands in a year when Vibram lugs have turned up on shoes that never planned to leave pavement. HAVEN and OTW by Vans fitted a Vibram outsole to the 60 year old Authentic 44 at the end of March, with premium nubuck, textured suede and leather piping above it. Nike ACG's Zegama Hike, a mid cut hiking boot with a Vibram Megagrip outsole and an integrated ankle gaiter cuff for debris, was covered in May for a July 2026 release.

July brought The North Face's Clyffe Ultra, an early 2000s ultra running shape built with the construction of the brand's climbing focused Clyffe line on a Vibram XS Trek EVO outsole, and Padmore and Barnes' P404 boot in patent croc skin with a Vibram lug sole in place of the model's usual crepe. On September 18, Patta and Crocs released the Classic Clog EXP with a lugged Vibram outsole replacing the molded Croslite base.

Off White is the sixth. Six Vibram soled shoes in under seven months: a skate shoe, a hiking boot, a runner, a boot, a clog and now a city sneaker, each paired with a lugged sole.

Off White Spent October Looking Backward

Off White's October has mostly looked at the past. Rimowa's clear carry on with Off White returned in black and a new white at HYPEFEST on October 6 and 7, eight years after its 2018 launch. A black and yellow Off White Air Jordan 1 sample surfaced with a reported 2018 date that remains a collector claim. The Virgil Abloh Foundation also named its eight student ABLOH AIR Flight 002 cohort on October 12, a program whose pilot, Flight 000, took ten students to London and Paris for nine days. The Be Right Back Trail is the forward looking exception, a 2024 shoe given a trail sole.

Off White says the pair is now available at its website and in select retailers worldwide, and it names one technology on the record: Vibram Traction Lug. The sole carries the whole announcement, and the coverage reviewed has nothing on the upper, the weight or the last.
