NINJAGO LEGENDS DUSKFALL PREMIERES IN SEOUL FRIDAY

Futura's family and friends filled a room at the Brooklyn Museum to see three LEGO Ninjago minifigure artworks unveiled in person, the first time in Ninjago's fifteen years that an outside artist has reimagined the line. On Friday, September 18, those same characters travel to I'Park Mall Yongsan in Seoul, where Ninjago premieres Legends DuskFall, the brand's first ever anime, with Futura standing in the room.

He told Complex the Ninjago partnership left him more inspired than almost anything else he has worked on, saying, "I don't think I've ever been so inspired and excited to begin such a journey, with a most historic partner." A museum artist from 103rd and Broadway calling a plastic minifigure his most historic partner is not humility, it is a market read.

Seoul Gets The Premiere New York Did Not

On Friday at I'Park Mall Yongsan in Seoul, Ninjago stages a fan event built around Futura's in person appearance and the world premiere of Legends DuskFall, the franchise's first ever anime. Fans get the newest Ninjago sets shown up close and exclusive giveaways tied to the collaboration, those minifigure designs from Brooklyn built now for a mall crowd instead of a museum reception. It follows Nike's own LEGO crossover this year, a football collection built around classic match films, proof Ninjago is not LEGO's first move into outside collaborators, just its most personal one. Brooklyn got the unveiling on September 8. Seoul gets the bigger stage nine days later: Ninjago's first anime, debuting beside the art instead of a trailer drop.

Read the two events together and the bet is obvious. A toy line that has resisted outside collaborators for fifteen years handed its universe to one graffiti artist, then flew his work to Korea before it reaches a US shelf. If Legends DuskFall pulls in anime viewers the way Ninja of the Futura pulled in the art crowd, Ninjago stops being a toy line with a cartoon attached and starts being a franchise two separate audiences claim as their own.
