Nike set the Halo's drop date to land on Kobe Bryant's birthday, six months after the Kobe 6 Protro 3D released for All Star Weekend in the same all white base Halo colorways have carried since Nike introduced the concept. Bryant died in January 2020, and Nike has used his birthday as a release anchor for tribute colorways in the years since, with the style code IO3415 100 marking this one in Nike's internal system.

The caption Nike posted with the release reads mastery lies within, and the phrase fits the approach here more than a marketing line usually does. There is no numbered pack, no blind box, no glasses gimmick attached to Halo. Just a shoe, a date, and a price.

Cushlon 3.0 Replaces the Original Foam Stack

The Kobe 10 Protro Halo swaps its original foam for a full length Zoom Air Strobel unit layered over Cushlon 3.0, a pairing Nike says increases energy return over the 2015 original. An open, breathable mesh upper replaces the tighter woven original, trading structural rigidity for flexibility through the toe box and midfoot.

Nike kept the X shaped traction pattern that defined the Kobe 10's outsole, but it rebuilt that outsole computationally rather than copying the original mold. It is the same approach Nike used on the Kobe 6 Protro 3D in February, where the brand preserved one signature design element from the original release and rebuilt the engineering underneath it instead of reprinting the shoe exactly as it shipped a decade earlier.

Red Stitching Was Never Just Decoration

The Kobe 10 launched in 2015 with visible red stitching across the heel, a direct reference to the Achilles tendon Kobe tore during the 2012 13 season against the Golden State Warriors. He tore it in the third quarter, walked to the free throw line on the torn tendon, and made both shots before he left the floor for good that night.

That detail is why the Kobe 10 mattered beyond its cushioning specs. Nike built it as a low top designed for speed and quick change of direction, the opposite of what you would expect from a player rebuilding trust in his own leg, and Bryant played the final two seasons of his career in it anyway.

Nike Has Rebuilt a Kobe Shoe Three Times This Year
