ON'S NATHANIEL EZEKIEL CARRIES A 47.11 RECORD TO BUDAPEST

The spike under Nathaniel Ezekiel's right foot is built the same way every Cloudspike in On's lineup is, a half length Speedboard carbon plate wedged under Helion HF foam that feels soft in the hand and turns stiff the instant it hits the track. He is wearing it because it is what On's own track roster races in, and this season that roster includes a 23 year old who owns Nigeria's national record in the 400 meter hurdles.

That record reads 47.11 seconds, set in Tokyo in 2025, and it is the number On is now running across Instagram instead of a shoe.

Baylor Made Him Its First Bowerman Finalist

Ezekiel spent his college career at Baylor University, where in June 2025 he won the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the 400 meter hurdles at Eugene, Oregon, in 47.49 seconds, the personal best that stood before Tokyo broke it. Baylor named him its first ever finalist for The Bowerman, college track and field's highest individual honor, and the NCAA followed by naming him its 2025 Division I Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Two months later at the World Championships in Tokyo, he dropped his own national record to 47.11 seconds and finished fourth overall, the closest a Nigerian hurdler has come to a global final podium in the event. A year earlier in Paris, he had already become only the third Nigerian to reach an Olympic 400 meter hurdles semifinal. On spent this same year putting its cushioning under a Loewe collaboration high top, so a national record from its own roster carries more than marketing weight.

Gold in Glasgow Erased a Sixth Place From Birmingham

Ezekiel arrived at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as the fastest qualifier into the final, clocking 48.69 seconds in the heats. He won the title in 48.47 seconds, the first Nigerian to take Commonwealth gold in the men's 400 meter hurdles, ahead of England's Jake Minshull and Jamaica's Assinie Wilson. Four years earlier in Birmingham, he had finished sixth in the same final in 51.38 seconds. Nigerian sport writers called the Glasgow win a redemption arc for exactly that reason, and On's own caption leans on the same framing, calling it a history making title before naming the country by its flag rather than spelling it out.

Two Podiums, Then an Eighth in Brussels

The two Diamond League podium finishes On's caption credits him with check out. He won the 400 meter hurdles at the Lausanne Athletissima meet, then took third at Zurich's Weltklasse in 47.50 seconds, a race Brazil's Alison dos Santos won by breaking the world record outright at 45.80 seconds. The results since have been rougher. He finished fourth at the Silesia Diamond League in 47.83 seconds, then eighth at the Diamond League Final in Brussels in 48.37 seconds, another dos Santos win. He now heads to the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, a new event carrying a 10 million dollar total prize pool, his first race since Brussels.
