ACTION BRONSON'S BAKLAVA DEBUTS A GROUP B RACER

The dirt was still wet when Vince hit record. Action Bronson's Baklava Motorsport project had a car in the field, a build nicknamed the Group B Mountain Goat, and it was doing exactly what a Group B car is built to do, moving sideways, fast, on a surface that punishes anything without real suspension travel. Bronson thanked The Custom Shop NYC and Vince by name for the footage. No press release, no launch date, just a car earning its name on what he called a nice dirty afternoon.

That casualness is the point. Bronson raps, cooks and paints under variations of his own name, and Baklava started as a shoebox logo. It is now a garage.

A Dirty Afternoon in Queens, Filmed by Vince

The clip shows a lifted, rally styled build called the Mountain Goat running a loose surface course while Vince films from the side. Bronson credited The Custom Shop NYC, a Queens shop known for road cars, overland rigs and 4x4 builds, as the team behind the machine. There is no retail listing attached, no drop date, no price, and no base vehicle named beyond the Mountain Goat nickname. The only facts on record are the shop, the filmer and the car itself, which is enough to place this inside Baklava, the label Bronson built out of a New Balance collaboration and has since pushed into a signature 2811 sneaker with no borrowed lineage number at all.

Group B Cars Were Banned for Being Too Fast

Group B was rallying's least restricted class, regulated by FISA, motorsport's governing body at the time, from 1982 to 1986, and it produced the most powerful rally cars ever built before officials pulled the plug. Cars like the Audi Quattro S1, the Lancia 037 and the Peugeot 205 T16 pushed past 500 horsepower in machines that weighed under a ton, run on public roads lined with fans who stood closer than any modern course would allow. The class ended after the 1986 Tour de Corse, when Henri Toivonen and codriver Sergio Cresto died when their Lancia Delta S4 crashed and burned. Naming a personal build after that class is a claim about intent, the same claim streetwear already made when A$AP Rocky pulled a 2005 Puma rally shoe out of the archive, a shoe built with the same rally DNA as actual World Rally Championship cars.

Bronson Already Said He Was Done Lowering Things

Bronson has been public about this shift for a while now. He converted a 1987 BMW M6 into a lifted Baja style build, complete with oversized tires and raised suspension, and has said he is done lowering cars and only interested in lifting them from here on. The Mountain Goat fits that same sentence. It also fits a pattern that has nothing to do with cars specifically. Baklava has already moved past New Balance's 990v6, the 1890 and the 992 Made in USA into a shoe with its own model number, into activewear, and into Bronson's own painting practice, which he has called his therapy since a 2018 leg injury. A rally build is simply the next room in a house that keeps adding rooms.

Baklava Keeps Adding Rooms to the Same House

This is not a brand extension in the traditional sense, the kind where a shoe company licenses a logo onto a hat. Baklava is closer to how a chef's name ends up on a restaurant group, or how a producer's tag becomes shorthand for a sound. The name stands in for a set of instincts, raise it instead of dropping it, build it in Queens instead of licensing it out, credit the two people who actually did the work instead of running a campaign. That is a harder thing to fake than a colorway.

Call this one early. A single clip with no product, no price and no drop date does not make a motorsport company. But Bronson has now run this exact playbook, footwear collaborator to signature shoe to painter to garage, four times without slowing down, and every time the label absorbed a new discipline instead of diluting the old one. The Mountain Goat is the receipt. The next question is whether Baklava Motorsport becomes a real build shop or stays a side project Bronson posts from a dirty field in Queens.
