VAQUERA'S CHUCK TAYLOR RETURNS TO GOAT AT $205

Two hundred and five dollars gets you a Chuck Taylor that no longer looks like a Chuck Taylor. The upper runs past where a normal high top would stop, sitting on a wedge sole hidden entirely under waxed canvas. This is the Converse x Vaquera Chuck Taylor All Star XXXHi Slouch Wedge, and GOAT just relisted it on its app and site eight months after Converse first released it. Vaquera did not restyle a Chuck. It restructured one, wedge sole, boot height, and hardware included, and priced it like the design object it actually is rather than the sneaker it started as.

$205 Buys a Wedge Sole Hidden Under Waxed Canvas

The Converse x Vaquera Chuck Taylor All Star XXXHi Slouch Wedge retails for $205 in women's sizing only. Underneath its knee high upper sits a hidden wedge sole, the structural change that turns a flat court shoe into something closer to a platform boot.

The upper itself is synthetic waxed canvas, a treated version of the same base material Converse has used on the Chuck since 1917, built here to soften and pick up a patina the longer someone wears it. A lace and webbing system cinches the slouch at the ankle, so the boot can stand fully upright or fold down into a lower silhouette depending on how much height a wearer wants exposed that day. That adjustability is the actual engineering behind the drama, not just fabric piled onto a familiar last.

A License Plate Replaces the Patch as the Signature

Vaquera signs this shoe with hardware, not print. A metal license plate is bolted to the heel of the left shoe only, while a Vaquera branded patch sits on the medial side in the spot Converse usually reserves for its own tag.

Converse kept its own pinstripe detailing and rubber toe cap underneath all of it, so the shoe's original DNA is still visible if you look past the added height. That restraint matters. Vaquera could have erased every Converse signature and built a generic boot. Instead it left the brand's fingerprints in place and let the silhouette do the disruption.

Patric DiCaprio Started This as Fan Fiction in 2013

Vaquera is a New York label started in 2013 by Patric DiCaprio, joined in 2016 by Bryn Taubensee alongside co designers Claire Sullivan and David Moses. The label built its identity on what it calls fashion fan fiction, oversized silhouettes and a Tiffany and Co. bag reimagined as a wearable dress among its signature pieces, and earned a 2017 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund nomination.

The Converse partnership gave that instinct an actual footwear factory instead of a sewing table. It produced two silhouettes: an XHi that stops just above the ankle with a drawstring closure, and the XXXHi that keeps climbing to the knee, the version GOAT has now put back in front of shoppers.

Converse released both Vaquera silhouettes globally on November 8, 2025 through vaquera.nyc and Dover Street Market, then widened distribution three days later through converse.com, SNKRS, and select retailers. Retail ran $185 for the XHi and $205 for the XXXHi.

Eight months on, a GOAT relisting means something different than a launch day drop. Sneaker collaborations chase one weekend of headlines, then most go quiet within a season. Secondary demand holding this long is the signal that the concept, not just the hype cycle, still has buyers. Finally Offline covered Converse's own First String Chuck Taylor Woven Leather at $200 in May, a version built to fix the standard Chuck's material complaints with Italian leather and a Vibram outsole. Vaquera never tried to fix anything. It exaggerated the silhouette until the complaint became the concept.

Yohji Yamamoto's reworked Stan Smith for Adidas took the same approach to a different archetype this year, proof that turning a classic inside out is a repeatable, sellable move across sportswear right now, not a one label experiment. Two hundred and five dollars for a canvas boot with a hidden wedge is not cheap for a shoe carrying Converse's mass market bones, but the price tracks with the object it became. Buy the XXXHi for the height, the wedge, and the hardware. Skip it if all you ever wanted was a Chuck.
