Tight Knit Mesh Where Suede Used to Be

The 740N is New Balance's no sew retro runner, built on a tight knit mesh foundation with slim synthetic overlays instead of the suede and mesh layering that defines the 990 line. Jjjjound's branding sits on the lateral heel, the same placement used on the 990v4, 993, and 991v1 Mushroom releases before it. Red accents hit the tongue, the lace loops, and the ABZORB cushioning callout on the midsole, the only color break in an otherwise light brown and black shoe. The base 740N retails at $115 with an open knit mesh upper, a segmented midsole, and reflective accents built for the early 2000s running silhouette New Balance has been reissuing since 2023. The 740N asks $115 for the same brown and black formula, a discount of nearly 48 percent against that most recent Mushroom release. New Balance has used the 740 as its accessible retro play since launch, a shoe that regularly gets marked down to $50 or $56 at outlet retailers even at full price elsewhere. Jjjjound has not confirmed a collab specific price for the 740N, and past Jjjjound New Balance releases have carried a modest premium over base retail, but nothing close to the $220 the Made in USA pair commanded. The gap between those two numbers is the entire story of this release.

New Balance Spent Forty Years Building This Leverage

New Balance's uncool decades are the reason Jjjjound's stamp carries any weight on a $115 shoe. Aime Leon Dore ran a similar transfer on the New Balance 2811 collab that soundtracked Action Bronson's Baklava short film, pushing a mid tier silhouette into culture coverage usually reserved for the 990 family.
