SKEPTA'S SEVEN YEAR WAIT ENDS WITH A NOVEMBER ALBUM

Skepta did not retire. He has not released a solo album since Ignorance Is Bliss on May 31, 2019, and his sixth studio album, The Fork and Knife, is due November 6, 2026 through Big Smoke and Epic Records. The gap was filled by the Mas Tiempo residency at Hï Ibiza, MAINS at London Fashion Week and a title that changed twice.
Key Points
- The Fork and Knife is due November 6, 2026 via Big Smoke and Epic Records
- Ignorance Is Bliss in 2019 was the last solo album, and it debuted at number two
- Mas Tiempo ran at Hï Ibiza from May 2 to October 3, 2026
- The title moved from Knife and Fork in 2024 to Fork and Knife to The Fork and Knife
Nothing went wrong with Skepta. He has gone seven years between solo albums, and on October 1, 2026 he put a date on the next one: The Fork and Knife arrives November 6, 2026 through Big Smoke Records and Epic Records. It is his sixth studio album and the first since 2019's Ignorance Is Bliss, so the question of what happened to Skepta has a short answer and a longer paper trail.
September 2016. A Mercury Prize and a Hard Act to Follow
Skepta won the 2016 Mercury Prize for Konnichiwa, an album released that May on his own Boy Better Know label. He beat a shortlist that included David Bowie's Blackstar, the bookmakers' favourite, and collected the prize at Hammersmith Apollo after performing Shutdown. Only one grime record had won before it: Dizzee Rascal's Boy in da Corner in 2003.
A win like that sets a standard the next record has to answer. Konnichiwa peaked at number two in the UK, and its successor would have to do more than repeat the trick.
31 May 2019. Ignorance Is Bliss, and Then Nothing Like It
Ignorance Is Bliss came out on May 31, 2019, his fifth studio album, and debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, level with Konnichiwa. Reviews were positive. It remains the last time he released a full solo album, which is the whole basis for the "where did he go" searches.
He did not go quiet. He kept releasing singles and EPs, ran a label, and built a second career in clubs and clothes. What he did not do was finish an album, and the seven year distance from 2019 to November 2026 is the gap people are noticing.
Three Titles in Two Years. The Album Kept Moving
In 2024 he announced the project as Knife and Fork with no confirmed date. By November 2025 it was Fork and Knife, due in early 2026. Early 2026 passed without a release. The date announced this month carries a third version of the name, The Fork and Knife.
Skepta has said the idea behind it is being a child of immigrants, the ambition of eating well and sitting at the table with cutlery. In an interview with Esquire UK he said seventeen tracks had been chosen and he was adding finishing touches, with some conscious material alongside the celebratory songs. A full tracklist has not been published.
The lead single Innocent Smile came out on September 17, 2026 with Madness frontman Suggs and producers Chase and Status, built from a ska demo that dates back six years. Reports on the album note that Innocent Smile and the earlier singles Chipple with Aya Nakamura and Danger Danger with Dom Dolla and Solomun do not appear on the record. The album also carries Gas Me Up (Diligent), first released in 2024.
Saturdays in Ibiza, a Season in Shoreditch
Much of the gap went to dance floors. Skepta's Mas Tiempo residency at Hï Ibiza ran every Saturday in the Club Room from May 2 to October 3, 2026, with Jammer and DJammin among the regular names. It was his first residency at Hï, after he appeared the previous summer in Carl Cox's UNVRS residency on the island. The run ended twelve days ago.
His fashion label MAINS, co-designed with creative director Mikey Pearce, showed its third season at London Fashion Week for Spring Summer 2026. The show, titled EuroTrash after the 1993 television series hosted by Jean Paul Gaultier and Antoine de Caunes, put dirty bins and party flyers on a Shoreditch runway, with Central Cee in the front row. The collection carried double collared shirts, corsets and MAINS branded cigarettes.
Skepta credited his team by name after a night at Hotel Cafe Royal in September, wearing Burberry and Stone Island. That post tied together the residency, the label and the unfinished album, three projects that ran at once.Reading, and the Jacket That Came Before the Campaign
The first public preview of the new music came at Reading Festival on August 28, 2026, where he played the Grid stage at 5:45pm and debuted new material from the album. He wore a Stone Island jacket from 2001, a Micro Felt Transparent Cover piece from the Paul Harvey years that is hard to find in green.
Days later Stone Island photographed him for its Autumn Winter 2026 Community as a Form of Research campaign. In the Hans Ulrich Obrist question series, he named his mother as the person he admires most and described freedom as something you have to work on. The campaign has since run on through the Stephen Graham denim coach jacket, a piece that also carries his name in its coverage.
The Reading jacket, the campaign and the album's immigrant family theme are the same story told in three formats, and the archive shows he told them in that order.
What Is Still Open
The release date is fixed, but the tracklist is not. Skepta's own record on timing is mixed: a 2024 target became early 2026, which became November 2026. Until the full list of tracks lands, the best evidence of what the album sounds like is a Madness feature, a Reading set and a moving title.
