FAKEMINK AND LUCKI LINKED UP. NOW PUT THEM ON A SONG.

Fakemink and Lucki linked up. Five photos, posted to HIDDEN NY, no caption past the obvious. Two of the more interesting names in rap right now, one out of the UK and one out of Chicago, standing in the same frame. It is a great photo. The only thing missing is a song.

Fakemink

Fakemink is the fastest-moving new name in underground rap, and he got there almost overnight. He spent his early run producing under the alias 9090, rebranded to Fakemink in 2024, and broke out the same year at twenty years old. His sound is its own thing, pitched vocals, distorted beats, lyrics that spill out loosely instead of locking into a grid. It splits rooms, which is usually the sign of something new rather than something safe.

The cosigns came fast and from the top. Drake, Playboi Carti, Frank Ocean, even Timothee Chalamet turned up in his corner before most casual listeners could name a single song. Then fashion moved. Fakemink walked Demna's first Gucci runway in Milan in February 2026, part of a wave of underground rap names the house cast to reach a younger audience. He is twenty, British, and already being pulled into the parts of culture most artists spend a decade chasing.

Lucki

Lucki is the other kind of story, and just as compelling. The Chicago rapper has been an underground pillar since 2013, when Alternative Trap announced him, and he has spent the years since shaping the emotional, hazy end of rap. His lane is cloud rap and alternative trap, introspective and melodic, built around mental health, substance, and the weight of carrying everything at once. Tapes like the Freewave series and Watch My Back earned him a cult following before the numbers ever caught up.

Then the numbers caught up too. Flawless Like Me in 2022 was his commercial breakthrough, and he has landed in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 with everything since, through Gemini and this year's Drugs R Bad. More than a decade in, he is both an influence and a chart artist, which is a rare pair of shoes to wear at the same time.

Now Put Them On A Song

Here is why the photo is not enough. Fakemink and Lucki are contemporaries working the same emotional, texture-first corner of rap from opposite ends of it. One brings Chicago melancholy and years of unfiltered honesty. The other brings distortion, youth, and a sound that still feels like it is being invented in real time. Put those two on a beat and the contrast is the whole appeal.

That is the record we actually want out of this. Not a carousel, not a cosign, a song. Two artists who clearly respect each other enough to stand in the same room could stand in the studio instead and find out what the overlap sounds like.
