HBX OPENS THE NEW BALANCE 990V7 AT 9 AM EST ON NOVEMBER 6

The shoe is the seventh generation of the 990, arriving four years after the 990v6 of 2022, and HBX describes it as "a standard of quiet refinement, evolved." The timing is the part worth reading closely: a shoe stamped Made in USA goes on sale in a window that is mid morning in New York and late night on the other side of the world.

9 AM in New York, 10 PM in Hong Kong

The HBX launch window is 9 AM EST, and the retailer prints the Hong Kong equivalent next to it, 10 PM HKT. Eastern time is 13 hours behind Hong Kong in November, so the same minute reads as the start of a workday in one city and the end of one in the other. A retailer that lists both clocks is expecting buyers on both.

The window is not the only one. New Balance's own page says only that the shoe is available November 6, and Gear Patrol lists a 10 a.m. start on that date, an hour after HBX. END. is launching the same pair on November 6 at endclothing.com and in all its stores. Three sellers on one date means the shoe is not a retailer exclusive.

The model is Kool Grey, style U990GR7, the launch colorway reported when the date was set. New Balance's official listing puts the price at 199.99 dollars. A Black pair is reported for Holiday 2026 with no confirmed date.

Pigskin Overlays on a Streamlined Shape

HBX credits the seventh generation with "nuanced tonality, premium pigskin overlays, and perfected proportions." New Balance's page agrees on the materials: classic mesh and pigskin suede on a rubber Ndurance outsole, in a refined and streamlined silhouette. Gear Patrol adds new tumbled leather accents on the tongue and heel tab, which it says break new ground for the 990 series. Hypebeast, covering Joe Freshgoods' closer look, lists updated paneling, reflective 3M accents and softer FuelCell cushioning.

Read together, that is a conservative update. The mesh and pigskin combination is what a 990 has always been; the changes are in the tumbled leather, the paneling and the cushioning underneath. HBX's phrase "perfected proportions" is a fair summary, because nothing here changes the silhouette a buyer would recognise from across a street.

New Balance also states that its Made in USA footwear contains a domestic value of 70 percent or more. So the Made in USA label here describes a shoe that is at least 70 percent American by value, not necessarily an entirely American one.

Sixteen Years, Then Fourteen, Then Four

The 990v1 came out in 1982, the v2 in 1998, the v3 in 2012, the v4 in 2016, the v5 in 2019, the v6 in 2022 and the v7 in 2026. That is why "Dad's back" works as a headline. A brand that waited 16 years for its first update is now running an ad campaign for its seventh.

HBX Has Been a Drop Desk Since September

This is not HBX's first appearance in a heritage launch. Saint Mxxxxxx x BAPE landed there on September 14, and Beautiful People's reversible Fall Winter 2026 collection had its first delivery on October 23. Streetwear, a Japanese fashion label and now an American running shoe give the retailer three very different drops inside two months.

New Balance is selling its flagships back to back as well. The Made in UK 991v2 pack landed November 1, five days before the 990v7, and the 991v2 pair is built at the Flimby factory in Cumbria, England. Kith's 2011 Monument pack is teased for the same season. An American shoe with a Hong Kong clock printed on its launch notice, a British shoe from Cumbria and a Kith collaboration all open inside a week.

The 990v7 goes on sale at HBX at 9 AM EST on November 6, and at 10 PM in Hong Kong the same minute. The 990v1 cost 100 dollars in 1982; the v7 lists at 199.99 dollars, 99.99 dollars more over 44 years and seven generations.
