DR. MARTENS TAPS SAGE NATION FOR A LONDON COLLAB

Dr. Martens is lining up a collaboration with Sage Nation, the London tailoring label started during lockdown, according to a teaser image credited to photographer robbiel1 and worn by tohru_dance and kennie.andrews. No shoe, colorway or date has been named yet. What is confirmed is who is on the other side of that pairing, and that is worth more than the caption suggests.

SAGE NATION BUILT ITS NAME ON A BOX PLEAT TROUSER

Sage Nation launched in 2020 almost by accident. Its founder was finishing his degree at Kingston University when the industry froze, so he started sewing trousers for people who kept asking for them. Three years later the label had a signature: a box pleat trouser with an origami fold at the waist, built from wool sourced in Japan and cotton sourced in Britain, sewn entirely in London. A second style, the Zushi trouser, took the same wool and let it drape rather than fold. Nothing about the line is seasonal, and nothing about it is gendered. That kind of restraint, one silhouette refined instead of a new print every quarter, is closer to how Dr. Martens talks about its own construction than to how most streetwear labels operate. Every Dr. Martens boot still runs on a Goodyear welt and an AirWair sole, the two features that turned a work boot into a status object for punks and mods decades before TikTok existed. Pairing with a designer who treats fabric with the same seriousness fits the brand's own math better than another logo swap would.

YMC co founder Fraser Moss died in May 2023. A year later, Jimmy Collins, the label's other founder, named Sage the brand's second ever creative director. He now designs for what i D magazine called the next generation of YMC's own crowd, Oasis fans included, while keeping Sage Nation running as his own line on the side. That double job is the credential here: a designer trusted to steer one heritage British house while his personal label still sells wool trousers out of London.

It also fits a pattern FO has already tracked this year. Dr. Martens rode its Adrian tassel loafer to a 24 percent sales jump in the first half of 2026, and its Wasted Youth pairing with Verdy showed how collaboration fatigue sets in once a designer's name is everywhere. Sage Nation has the opposite problem: almost nobody outside London tailoring circles knows the name yet, so a boot with his fingerprints on it would land as discovery instead of repetition.

Buy nothing yet. There is no shoe, no price and no date, only a photograph. But two facts are worth banking: Sage Nation was built from a single trouser during a lockdown with no jobs to be had, and its founder now runs the whole of YMC a year after Moss's death. Wait for the product. The pedigree behind it already checks out.
