BETTER IN PERSON 路 EP 011 路 Watch the episode on YouTube

Better in Person episode 11, Finally Offline's street interview series hosted by Savvy, features Brandon Lamont, the first guest on the show to answer that he is better online. He says people who know him know he is a great person in person, and that he hates the internet and hates being on it, but he maintains his online presence because it functions as the new ID card or greeting card, so he keeps his record clean. Offline he goes record shopping, meditates, and has recently been going to the gym. He closes by shouting out host Savvy and insisting, for the record, that he had the phone case first.

Key Points

Eleven episodes in, someone finally said it.

Better in person or better online? "I feel like conceptually I'm better online." Savvy catches it immediately: that is not the answer this show usually gets.

The why is the whole episode. "If people know me, they know I am in person. I'm a great person. But I hate the internet, and I hate being on it." So why work on the online version at all? Because it is not optional anymore. "It's like the new ID card. It's the greeting card. So I got to keep my online presence how it is."

Savvy translates: you got to keep your record clean. "Exactly."

Offline, he goes record shopping and buys new records, meditates, and lately has been going to the gym. Savvy vouches for the record shopping and the gym, and stays skeptical about the meditation.

Then the shout out turns into a case. "Shout out to Savvy. Love and hate this man. He been grinding, I got to give him his flowers." And then, for the record: he had the phone case first. The pink one. The red one. Both of them know who had it first. Savvy offers that maybe the pink one was the friends we made along the way. "I swear I'm not going crazy."

He hates the internet. He is still better on it. That is the most honest answer this show has gotten.

Transcript

Brandon Lamont: I will say, I want to get the record straight. I got the phone case first.

Savvy: What's up guys? Savvy here with Finally Offline, and today we have a very special guest. Please tell the people who you are.

Brandon Lamont: My name is Brandon Lamont.

Savvy: So, quick question for you. Are you better in person or better online?

Brandon Lamont: I feel like conceptually I'm better online.

Savvy: Okay, now that's an interesting take. We don't usually get that one on the show. Why would you say you're better online?

Brandon Lamont: If people know me, they know I am in person. I'm a great person. But I hate the internet, and I hate being on it. But just because it's like the new ID card, you know what I'm saying? It's like the greeting card. So I got to keep my online presence how it is.

Savvy: You got to keep your record clean.

Brandon Lamont: Exactly.

Savvy: Nice. So let's say there was a day where you're offline. What can we catch you doing around the city? What are some of your favorite ways to disconnect from it all?

Brandon Lamont: I guess I'll go record shopping, go buy some new records.

Savvy: Yeah, I've seen you do that a couple times.

Brandon Lamont: Like to meditate. Recently I've been going to the gym.

Savvy: I don't know about the meditating, but the gym, I can vouch. And then lastly, honestly, is there anybody you want to send love to, shout out to? Or even if you want to hate on somebody, now's the time.

Brandon Lamont: Shout out to Savvy. Love and hate this man. He been grinding though, you know. I got to give him his flowers. He been doing his thing. I will say, I want to get the record straight. I got the phone case first. I had the phone case. We both know who had the phone case first, but I just want to get the record straight. I had the pink one. I had the red one before. He's on like my fifth phone.

Savvy: What pink one?

Brandon Lamont: Bro, don't do that.

Savvy: Maybe the pink one is the friends we made along the way. It's okay, man.

Brandon Lamont: I swear I'm not going crazy.

Savvy: It's all right. It's all good. Finally Offline. We out. Peace.
