AWAKE NY PUT SAFFIANO LEATHER ON A JORDAN 6

Saffiano is the crosshatched, wax treated calfskin that Prada built a handbag empire on. Angelo Baque put it on the overlays and heel of an Air Jordan 6, in navy on one pair and pink on the other, and captioned the reveal Built Outside The System. That is a Canal Street joke told in a luxury material, and it is the most literal thing Awake NY has ever made.

The two shoes arrive as one capsule. Awake NY opens with a Park Jam at Seward Park on the Lower East Side on August 22, an online EQL raffle follows on August 23, and the full release lands at the brand's New York store and site on August 24, both pairs at 230 dollars.

Saffiano on the Overlays, Nubuck on the Toe

The navy pair carries Midnight Navy and Light Blue leather with Game Royal nubuck across the forefoot and toe, under style code IQ5706 400. The pink pair, IQ5706 600, runs Playful Pink with Shy Pink and Arctic Pink. Both use Saffiano across the overlays and heel, Infrared 23 contrast stitching, reflective side panels carrying the Awake A, speckled midsoles and translucent outsoles, and speckled co branded hangtags.

The Saffiano choice is the whole argument. Counterfeit sneakers on Canal Street sit two tables away from counterfeit handbags, and the crosshatch is the texture that gives a fake bag away fastest. Baque used the real version of that texture on a real Jordan. The deliberately uneven stitching and exaggerated color blocking finish the joke.

Infrared 23 Is a 1991 Reference, Not a 2026 One

The Air Jordan 6 turns 35 this year. Tinker Hatfield designed it in 1991 with a spoiler style heel tab, a neoprene tongue sleeve, a lace lock and visible Air, cues he pulled from Michael Jordan's Porsche 911, and Jordan wore the Black Infrared through the playoff run that produced his first championship. Every Infrared 23 hit on these two pairs, from the lace lock to the Nike Air heel branding, is aimed at that shoe rather than at any recent retro.

Awake is not the first label handed the 6. The model arrived in 1991 in five colorways, was retroed in 2000, 2002 and 2006, and has been in near constant rotation since. The Doernbecher edition opened the model to collaborators in 2009, and 2019 alone brought Travis Scott, Aleali May, Paris Saint Germain and Social Status.

Third Jordan Project, Third Distribution Model

This is Awake NY's third project with Jordan Brand. The Air Ship PE SP in University Red came first, on March 9, 2024 through Awake and March 13 through SNKRS. Two Air Jordan 5 colorways followed in 2025. Finally Offline reported on August 18 that Jordan Brand confirmed the navy pair as Midnight Navy a week after Awake had already called it blueberry, and covered the pink pair when it was still a countdown post on August 13.

That naming gap is the pattern worth watching. Awake's community learns the shoe by its nickname, the hashtags do the work, and the official color name arrives days later to an audience that has already decided what to call it.

The Leather Jacket Is the Sleeper

The apparel capsule releasing alongside is not filler. It includes a hooded leather jacket with a skeletal ribcage graphic on the front and Awake branding across the back, in blue and pink to match the shoes, plus a tracksuit, polos with X shaped piping, camo skull caps, graphic tees and selvedge denim. Baque has been running clothing since 2012, six years before most sneaker collaborators had a cut and sew program at all, and Awake's Summer 26 collection sat in Concepts in July on the strength of the clothes alone.

Two Pairs, One Park, and a Ten Year Brand

The pink pair is exclusive to Awake NY. The navy pair reaches SNKRS and select retailers in September, which means the shoe Baque named first is the one most people will only see through a raffle. Awake NY started in 2012 out of a Supreme brand director's after hours, opened a Lower East Side store in June 2023, and now gets a park in the same neighborhood for a launch. Built Outside The System is a caption, but a Park Jam at Seward Park two days before the raffle is a distribution decision, and it is the part Nike cannot copy.
