Key Points

Victor Wembanyama had 52 points, 24 rebounds and 8 blocks against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, and San Antonio needed nearly all of it to win 112 to 111. Blocks have only been an official stat since 1973 to 74, and StatMuse's game logs show no other game with 50 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks. The 52 points are also a career high, two past his previous best.

The first half set a mark of its own. He had 29 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks in 17 minutes, and the league said he is the first player of the play by play era, which starts with the 1997 to 98 season, to reach 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in a single half. Tim Duncan's entire career fits inside that window. So do the prime years of Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and Anthony Davis. None of them produced that line in a half.

15 Free Throws, 12 Shots, No Misses at the Line

San Antonio led 68 to 51 at the break at Frost Bank Center, and Wembanyama had 42.6 percent of those points, according to USA Today. He took 12 shots and made 7, every one of them in the restricted area. He went 0 for 4 from three, so the jumper gave him nothing.

The other 15 points came at the free throw line, where he went 15 for 15. Dallas had 31 rebounds as a team in that half, and Wembanyama had 15 by himself. He finished the half with 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 foul and no turnovers.

Most of what makes the line strange is how little time it took. He sat for 3:56 of the first quarter and 3:27 of the second, and Dallas still had no answer for the minutes he played. Fouling him gave up two points at a time. Challenging him at the rim went worse.

It Took 50 Seconds for Dallas to Feel It

The game opened with Wembanyama taking the ball from Kyrie Irving's bad pass at 11:44. At 11:22 he blocked an 11 foot pull up from Cooper Flagg. At 11:10 he dunked for the first points of the night. San Antonio led 32 to 26 after one quarter, and his driving dunk with 6.4 seconds left made the last two of those points.

Flagg got the worst of it. Three of the five first half blocks were on him, and he went 1 for 11 from the field before the break. Wembanyama also scored 40 with 15 rebounds on Flagg's NBA debut in October 2025, a 125 to 92 win in Dallas, in the season he went on to win Defensive Player of the Year unanimously.

Three Blocks in 13 Seconds on One Possession

The play that will travel furthest came with under four minutes left in the second quarter. Out of a Dallas timeout, he blocked Flagg's floater at 3:51. The Mavericks kept the ball. He blocked P.J. Washington's pull up at 3:44. The Mavericks kept it again. He blocked Daniel Gafford from five feet at 3:38, and De'Aaron Fox finally took the rebound. That is three different Mavericks, three blocks and 13 seconds, with no change of possession in between.

San Antonio led 49 to 46 when he checked back in with 5:21 to go in the half. It was 68 to 51 at the buzzer. The Spurs won that stretch 19 to 5, and Wembanyama scored 10 of the 19 on a tip in dunk, a dunk, a short shot in the paint and four free throws.

Forty Three Points, Then Twelve, Then Fifty Two

The homestand has run through every version of him. He had 43 points, 7 rebounds, 6 blocks and 4 assists against Minnesota. Then on Monday against Utah he shot 5 for 15 and scored 12 in 24 minutes of a 119 to 97 win, with 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. He came into Wednesday averaging 25.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 4.0 blocks, per StatMuse.

The team around him has followed. San Antonio started the season 0 and 2 with losses to Oklahoma City and Houston, and this win made it six straight. The Spurs lost the 2026 Finals to the Knicks 4 to 1, and half of the league's general managers picked them to win the 2027 title in the annual survey released in October.

He has been building toward nights like this for a while. In May he set the NBA playoff record with 12 blocks in Game 1 against Minnesota, in a triple double, on the way to a Finals run that began when he left home at 14.

San Antonio Lost His 14 Minutes on the Bench by 22

He finished plus 23 in 34 minutes and the Spurs won by one, so they lost the 14 minutes he sat by 22. They led by 18 when he went to the bench at 7:55 of the third quarter and by 11 when he came back at 4:28. He scored 11 more before the quarter ended, on two alley oop dunks from Fox, a pair of jumpers and three free throws, for a 90 to 80 lead. He sat again at 9:11 of the fourth with San Antonio up 94 to 87, and by the time he returned at 6:05 the game was tied at 100.

He Made 18 Straight Free Throws, Then Missed 4 of 5

His only three of the night, on his eighth try, came from 25 feet at 5:20 and tied it at 103. At 4:50 he blocked Naji Marshall for his eighth block. He scored at 3:15, at 2:39 and on a tip at 1:47 that made it 111 to 108, and 9 of his 24 rebounds came on the offensive end.

Dallas tied it at 111 anyway. He had started the night 18 for 18 at the line, then missed the free throw after his layup at 3:15 and both at 2:10. Fouled by Washington with 24.2 seconds left, he missed the first and made the second. Irving, who led Dallas with 29, missed from 15 feet with 2.5 seconds left, and Dylan Harper, who had 21, took the rebound. Wembanyama made 1 of his last 5 free throws, and that one won the game.
