SLAWN'S SIX NEW TITLES READ LIKE A TAROT PULL

Once Upon A Time and Tears Of A Champion do not usually sit in the same sentence. Slawn just put them in the same caption.

Six title cards, no explanation attached. Once Upon A Time, Tears Of A Champion, Astrologer, A Kiss With A Fist, Lastuf and Touch Wood, stacked in that order with a carousel of 18 images behind them and not one caption on any single canvas.

The list reads less like a checklist and more like a spread of cards flipped in sequence.

Born Olaolu Akeredolu Ale in Lagos in 2000, Slawn built an audience on Instagram before a single gallery came calling. His debut show landed at Truman Brewery on Brick Lane in September 2021, a warehouse space rather than a rebuilt museum wing, and the caption habit he formed there, dropping images with almost nothing written underneath, has not changed since.

A Fairy Tale Opens On A Boxer's Tears

Once Upon A Time is the oldest trick in storytelling, the line that promises safety before anything bad happens. Slawn puts it first, then breaks that promise immediately with Tears Of A Champion, a title that only works if winning already cost somebody something.

That whiplash is the point. His paintings have long paired a cartoon face with a real bruise underneath it. Setting the fairy tale opener next to a title about grief dressed up as victory is the same move on paper that he makes on canvas.

Astrologer And A Kiss With A Fist Argue With Each Other

Astrologer suggests fate is already written. A Kiss With A Fist suggests somebody is about to break that fate on purpose, with force close enough to pass for affection. Lastuf reads like a name held over from an earlier draft, unfinished on purpose or a private joke nobody outside the studio is meant to solve. Touch Wood closes the set the way a superstition closes a sentence, a small hedge against whatever the other five titles just promised.

Six titles, four different registers: folklore, sport, mysticism and old fashioned superstition. That range fits an artist whose recent history runs from a sold out mural at Saatchi Yates to a public commission that ran on city screens simultaneously.

Louis Vuitton And Rolex Already Carry His Marks

Slawn's crossover into fashion is documented, not assumed. Virgil Abloh championed him for a Louis Vuitton collaboration, and Slawn has released his own defaced versions of Rolex, Louis Vuitton and Rimowa pieces that sell out within minutes of posting. In 2023 he became the youngest artist to design the Britannia statuette handed out at the BRIT Awards.

That same year, CIRCA put his work on public screens across London, Berlin, Milan, Seoul, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Accra and Lagos at once, a scale rarely handed to an artist who started on Instagram.

Saatchi Yates Sold Out And Set This Precedent

The September 2024 show at Saatchi Yates in London sold out within days. More than 177 of the 1000 individual canvases were gone by the second day alone, and crowds outside reportedly forced street closures. That is the audience now receiving six new titles and 18 new images with zero context attached.

Slawn's caption format matches an instinct fashion labels have leaned on all year: treat a bare list as the entire pitch. A three post teaser works the same way, withholding the explanation and letting the title cards carry the weight. Streetwear collaborators have run the identical play, landing six new silhouettes with barely a line of copy attached.

This Reads Like A Confirmed Show, Not A Rumor

Six titles and 18 images posted without a gallery name attached is not how a casual update moves. It is how an artist with a sold out 2024 exhibition and a Louis Vuitton co sign paces an announcement he already knows will sell before it opens.

Tears Of A Champion and Astrologer are strong enough to anchor a show on their own. Placed next to Touch Wood, they read like an artist hedging his own confidence in public, which given his sales record so far, is a very Slawn thing to do.

He has already done the pop up version of this once, staging 24 Hours In Atlanta with Lil Yachty in 2025 rather than waiting for a traditional gallery calendar. Six new titles and 18 fresh images posted with zero press release fits the same pattern: move fast, let the work explain itself, and let the room decide the rest afterward.
