SALOMON XT-EVO LEAVES KITH EXCLUSIVITY IN 26 DAYS

Salomon Sportstyle called the XT EVO a new chapter in the XT line's lineage when the shoe posted to its own account on September 2, 2026, promising technical heritage reimagined through contemporary design. Twenty six days earlier, the same platform released as a Kith exclusive, a TPU shelled version limited to two colorways at 225 dollars. Now three mainline colorways landed the same day for 200 dollars, 15 dollars above the XT 6 the silhouette grew out of. Salomon is not introducing anything new. It is putting the archive on its own shelf, at 25 dollars less than the version Kith sold first.

A Molded Ridge Runs Across Every Panel

The upper is liquid rubber, not TPU. Salomon molds it directly over a mesh base, in ridges that run the length of the forefoot and curl around the eyestay, so the overlay reads as one continuous piece instead of a stitched panel. That is a deliberate departure from the Kith version, which used a hard TPU shell over the same base; liquid rubber flexes with the foot, TPU does not. The mesh underneath stays visible in the gaps between ridges, so the shoe still breathes like a trail shoe even with the sculpted surface on top. Salomon lists three colorways for the mainline drop: Black paired with Asphalt, Alloy with Castlerock and Ftw Silver, and Black with Fiery Red and White. None of them chase the two tone contrast Kith used on its own pair. The mainline colorways read closer to the XT 6's default palette than to a collaboration's flex piece, which is the point.

26 Days Separated the Kith Exclusive From the Mainline

Salomon Sportstyle put the XT EVO on its own shelf 26 days after Kith introduced the silhouette. Kith and Salomon released the shoe first on August 7, 2026, with a TPU shell upper and two colorways at 225 dollars, the label's second Salomon collaboration of the year after February's XT 4K and XT VYGR 2. That version moved through Kith's own retail network before the wider public ever saw the shoe on Salomon's own site. Now Salomon Sportstyle sells the same platform under its own name, in its own colorways, for 25 dollars less. That is a short runway for an exclusive. Most sneaker collaborations hold their window for months before a brand folds the silhouette into general release, if it ever does. Salomon compressed that gap to under four weeks, which reads less like a slow rollout and more like the Kith version was always meant to function as a preview, not a limited edition built to hold its distance.

Kilian Jornet's Sole Still Anchors the Shoe

The XT EVO does not touch the ground the way its upper suggests. Underneath, it keeps the XT 6's outsole and midsole outright: the Contagrip Mud rubber compound, cut into deep lugs for loose and uneven surfaces, sitting on Salomon's Agile Chassis frame and EnergyCell foam. That sole architecture traces back to 2013, when Salomon built the original XT 6 for ultrarunners, Kilian Jornet among them, before moving the silhouette into the Sportstyle lifestyle line in 2018. Salomon's XT ICONS capsule leaned on that same history in July, reissuing the XT 6 alongside three other archive shapes in a 185 dollar palette. The EVO keeps that lineage intact rather than starting from a new platform, which is the difference between a redesign and a reskin. Everything that made the XT 6 grip a trail still grips one here.

The Mainline Version Is Not Trying to Be Exclusive

This is at least the fourth distinct XT silhouette Salomon Sportstyle has put back into rotation since mid July, after the XT ICONS Forms pack, the Race Flag label's return to the XT 4, and the XT Whisper's third restyle of the year in August. None of those needed a collaborator's name attached to sell. The pattern across all of them is the same: take a proven sole platform, change the upper treatment, ship it through Salomon's own channels at a price under 200 dollars. The Kith version was the outlier, not the template. Salomon Sportstyle is not chasing hype cycles with the XT EVO. It is running its own archive on a loop, fast enough that a shoe can go from a 225 dollar collaboration exclusive to a 200 dollar mainline release in under a month, and call both moves consistent with the brand it has been building all year.

The XT EVO is not a hype shoe with a limited run. It is a 200 dollar entry point into a sole platform that has now proven itself across four different price points since July, from the 150 dollar XT Whisper to the 225 dollar Kith exclusive. Buy this one for the Contagrip outsole and the EnergyCell foam, not for a story about scarcity. There will be another XT capsule within the month.
