PALACE TRADES A LANDMARK BUILDING FOR A MALL FLOOR IN SEOUL

Palace Jamsil opens at 10:30 AM KST on August 22, on the first floor of Lotte World Mall at 300 Olympic ro, Songpa gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is the brand's third Seoul store in under three years, and the first Palace flagship in Asia built inside a shopping mall rather than a restored or standalone building. The August 19 announcement is four lines of caps lock and a recycling emoji, the same stripped format Palace has used for every store confirmation this year. That single fact, a mall floor instead of a landmark, breaks a pattern the London label has followed everywhere else it opened in 2026.

10:30 AM, August 22. Floor One, Not a Landmark.

Palace confirmed the exact opening hour this week, a detail its earlier Jamsil posts left out. The store's address and floor plan were confirmed two weeks earlier; this week's caption adds the clock. Doors open 10:30 AM Korea Standard Time on the first floor of Lotte World Mall, 300 Olympic ro, Songpa gu, and that is a boarding time, not a landmark address. It marks a real shift for a brand that built its first two Seoul stores as destinations in their own right. Apgujeong opened in February 2024 as a two storey, 486 square meter standalone, Palace's largest store anywhere at the time. Hongdae followed in February 2025 on Hongik ro 5 gil in Mapo gu, another building Palace controlled top to bottom, inside and out. Jamsil is the first of the three where the opening hour answers to someone else's lease.

Tai Kwun and Zhangyuan Set the Playbook

Every Palace store outside London and New York has been built around one specific piece of local history. Hong Kong's flagship, which opened February 7, 2026 on Leighton Road in Causeway Bay, took its brick and tile from the Tai Kwun Police Headquarters Block, the former colonial police compound now preserved as a heritage site, and paired the launch with a technical kit made with South China FC, one of the city's oldest football clubs. Shanghai went further. The store that opened May 23, 2026 sits inside Zhangyuan, a restored complex of nineteenth century lilong courtyard houses in Jing'an District, its interior reworking the ponds, pavilions and winding paths of a classical Chinese garden. Jamsil Skips the Restored Building Entirely

Palace has described the Jamsil interior as translating Korean architectural references into a retail floor, built around long uninterrupted sightlines and repeated pillar structures that read as a contemporary version of a traditional layout, and the brand has tied that language to a Korean UNESCO World Heritage Site without naming which one. But the building around it is not heritage anything. Lotte World Mall sits at the base of Lotte World Tower, the 555 meter supertall designed by the American firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, which opened in 2017 as Seoul's first building in that height class. The mall's dedicated luxury wing, Avenuel, carries more than ninety brand storefronts, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Gucci among them, spread across roughly 30,000 square meters. Palace is not restoring a courtyard here. It is leasing a floor inside the newest, biggest commercial address in the city and asking the interior to do the heritage work that Hong Kong and Shanghai got for free from their buildings.

Palace announced Jamsil the way it announces everything, a recycling symbol and a bullet list with no adjectives. This week's post repeats the format a third time and adds only the one new fact that matters, the hour. No render, no interview, no press language about heritage or craftsmanship. The store has to say all of that itself, on a mall floor instead of a courtyard, at 10:30 AM on August 22, the fourth Asian flagship Palace has opened or confirmed inside six months. If the mall model performs in Seoul, expect it to replace the restored building as the template once Palace runs out of Tai Kwuns and Zhangyuans in the next cities it wants.
