OUR LEGACY WORK SHOP OVERDYES THE DICKIES 874

Dickies has built the 874 from the same recipe since 1967: 8.5 ounce twill, 65 percent polyester to 35 percent cotton, non stretch, engineered to survive a full shift and a wash cycle without losing its crease. OUR LEGACY's WORK SHOP line took that pant, along with the wool field jacket the US Army adopted in November 1944 and soldiers nicknamed after the general who lobbied for it, and rebuilt both in a new organic cotton twill instead. The label is calling it Fall 2026. What it actually did was strip two garments engineered for endurance of their synthetic fiber and hand them a fabric built to look worn before anyone buys it.

Organic Cotton Replaces the Poly Blend

WORK SHOP replaced the 874's stock fabric with a new organic cotton twill, cutting out the polyester Dickies has used since 1967. Dickies built the 874 in a 65 percent polyester, 35 percent cotton twill for nearly six decades because the blend resists wrinkling and holds its shape under repeated industrial washing, the exact math a uniform supplier runs when the customer is a mechanic, not a shopper. WORK SHOP's version is described by the brand as having a soft, natural hand, the tradeoff every label makes when it drops synthetic fiber for a single natural one.

A single natural fiber drapes softer and takes dye and abrasion more unevenly than a poly blend, which is exactly why WORK SHOP wanted it. The studio then overdyed and faded the fabric itself, meaning the lived in look ships from the factory floor rather than getting earned on someone's body over a year of wear. It is a manufactured patina applied to a garment originally engineered for the opposite goal, durability with as little visible wear as possible.

WORK SHOP is not the only label Dickies has handed its archive to this month. On August 21, Union Los Angeles turned the 874's construction inside out, exposing the cover stitches and pocket bags that normally sit hidden inside the seam. WORK SHOP took the opposite instinct seven days later, hiding nothing structural and instead aging the surface before sale. The same stretch saw Carhartt WIP graft its Arctic Jacket chest pockets onto a pair of jeans, a third American workwear archive treated as raw material inside two weeks. None of these three labels coordinated with each other. All three reached into the same drawer at the same time.

A Fort Lewis Tailor Started the Eisenhower Jacket

Dwight Eisenhower had a tailor shorten and fit a standard Army service coat while he was a colonel at Fort Lewis in 1941, years before anyone called it his jacket. He lacked the rank to make it regulation. By May 5, 1943, by then a general, he wrote to Army Chief of Staff George Marshall arguing that the boxy standard coat made soldiers look like a disorderly mob and that a sharper, waist length jacket would fix it. The Army agreed. The wool serge jacket entered service in November 1944 as the M1944 field jacket, with a pleated back, an adjustable waistband, fly front buttons and bellows chest pockets, and soldiers had it renamed the Ike jacket within months. WORK SHOP is not restyling a generic field coat. It is restyling a specific argument one general made about how the Army should look, decided more than eight decades before this drop.

Five Weeks, Five New OUR LEGACY Releases

WORK SHOP's Dickies project is not OUR LEGACY's only recent move. The main line's own Fall Winter 2026 denim wall reached stores on August 19, the label's third wave of first arrivals since its scarves landed August 7. Add the Ginza store relocation and this WORK SHOP drop landing nine days after the denim wall, and OUR LEGACY has put new product or new retail space in front of customers in five of the last six weeks. That is the cadence of a studio in expansion mode, not one resting on a single seasonal collection.

Dover Street Market Owns Every American Door

Every American door selling this drop belongs to Dover Street Market. The full release list runs to ourlegacy.com, WORK SHOP's own Stockholm and London stores, OUR LEGACY's five city network in Stockholm, Berlin, Busan, London and Seoul, and Dover Street Market locations in Beijing, Ginza, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Singapore. Strip out the overlap and the United States gets exactly two physical doors for this drop, both Dover Street Market, Los Angeles and New York. A Stockholm studio reworking an American uniform brand's most basic pant still will not sell it from a single American store of its own.

OUR LEGACY has not published a price for either piece, and the fabric swap makes the number almost beside the point. A pant built since 1967 to hide six decades of wear now ships pre faded on purpose, and a label doing five releases in six weeks still routes every American sale through someone else's storefront.
