JA 4 DEEP WATER PUTS TEETH AROUND THE TONGUE

Nike Ja 4 Deep Water gives Ja Morant's fourth signature shoe a blue upper and a row of teeth around the tongue graphic. Nike Basketball's September 25 announcement says the colourway is available now, using the shark reference to sharpen a silhouette that already has its own structural identity.

The close views make the tongue the first place to look. Pale pointed shapes surround the central mark, while several blues divide the upper into panels and edges. In the campaign image, Morant appears beside stacked speakers and a clock reading 12:12, adding a second setting around the product details.

The Ja 4's containment frame was the subject of its earlier introduction. Deep Water does not need a new midsole to have a new visual identity. The teeth and layered blues direct attention toward the upper, where a close view can separate this edition from the earlier presentation of the platform.

Teeth Circle the Tongue Mark

The photographed Deep Water tongue places pale tooth shapes around the Ja graphic. That arrangement turns an ordinary branding area into the colourway's clearest shark reference.

The detail works because the teeth follow a boundary. They give the tongue a framed centre and a serrated edge, a shape the eye can find even when the rest of the shoe is crowded with seams and changes in colour. Nike's Swoosh history begins with Carolyn Davidson's 1971 design; the Ja mark gives Morant's signature shoe an additional identity of its own.

Elsewhere, the blue shades keep the object from reading as a single flat colour. Darker areas settle into the recesses around the upper, while paler sections bring the toe and side into view. The shoe's outline remains recognisable, but the colour treatment gives each layer a slightly different emphasis.

Those observations concern the pictured design. They do not establish a performance advantage over another Ja 4 colourway. The shark imagery belongs to the graphic treatment, while the support and cushioning specifications belong to the shoe's underlying construction.

Cushlon and the Ja Frame Sit Under the Colour

Nike specifies Cushlon 3.0 cushioning, a SPRPWR sockliner and a TPU Ja Frame for the Ja 4. The frame runs around the midfoot and heel as part of the shoe's containment system.

Nike's launch material describes the platform in relation to Morant's game. “Colorways have always been big for me,” Morant says in that announcement, a short statement that gives Deep Water's visual emphasis an attributable source without treating the new colours as new engineering.

The difference matters when comparing editions. A blue panel or a tooth graphic can identify Deep Water immediately, while the Ja Frame connects it to the wider Ja 4 line. Someone choosing between colourways is looking at different treatments of the same named model, unless a regional product listing specifies a separate version.

The earlier Ja 4 release announcement established the model's August arrival. September's Deep Water post belongs later in that sequence, extending the available visual range rather than resetting the signature line's launch date.

Regional Listings Use Different Product Codes

Nike Japan lists an EP Deep Water version under JA9741 400, while Nike Australia's page uses JA9742 400. The Japanese listing should not be treated as a US product page or used to assign a US retail price.

Nike names Diffused Blue, Chambray, Glacier Blue and Blackened Blue in the checked regional colour description. Those names correspond to the layered blue appearance, but the product code and purchase location remain separate pieces of information from the global Basketball account's availability announcement.

For a buyer, the useful next step is the relevant local Nike listing. An international campaign saying a shoe is available does not establish identical inventory, pricing or release status in every country. Deep Water is a named colourway across those pages, while the regional code identifies the version being offered.

Speakers Give Morant a Second Frame

The campaign photograph places Morant beside a wall of speakers, with a clock displaying 12:12. The product close view then isolates the tongue teeth and blue upper from that larger setting.

The two kinds of image serve different purposes. The speakers and clock give the campaign a recognisable scene; the close photograph gives the shoe a detail someone can find on the object itself. Neither needs to stand in for the other.

Deep Water's clearest additions are therefore specific: pale teeth around the tongue mark and four named blues across the regional listing. Beneath them, Cushlon 3.0 and the Ja Frame keep the colourway attached to the Ja 4 platform already introduced in August.
