MELITTA BAUMEISTER BUILDS A PALE FRAME AT DSM LA

Melitta Baumeister DSM LA has a new space for Fall Winter 2026, framed by pale wooden partitions and a silver clothing rail. The photographed installation places dark, rounded garments against that angular structure, making the clothes' volume easy to read before anyone takes a piece from a hanger.

Concrete flooring and white brick remain visible around the display. The wood does not attempt to disappear into those surfaces; its large flat planes create a smaller setting inside the store. Black footwear and headwear sit within the same restrained range of colours as the hanging clothes.

Dover Street Market has recently used a similarly direct piece of shop architecture for Stüssy's New York space, where a red rail organised the display. Baumeister's Los Angeles setting gives the larger wooden forms more of the visual work, using them to establish the boundary around the collection.

Pale Partitions Frame the Dark Silhouettes

The new space uses angular wooden panels beside a silver rail holding black and white garments. The installation photographs leave the wood's surface visible instead of covering it with a printed campaign image.

That choice creates a useful separation between fixture and clothing. The panels are straight and flat; the hanging dark pieces swell and curve away from their supports. A visitor can compare those shapes immediately because the background does not repeat the garments' folds.

The photograph's widest view also leaves room below the rail. Footwear occupies the lower part of the installation, while the larger garments remain suspended above it. The gap between floor and hem gives each dark outline enough space to stay distinct.

No material label is needed to see the difference between the pale fixture and the darker clothes. The photographs establish colour, form and placement, while individual garment composition belongs to the retailer's product information. The installation's effect comes from how those visible surfaces sit together.

Baumeister's Nike Work Also Reached DSM

Nike's March 31 announcement connected Melitta Baumeister with the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium, with an April 7 release through Dover Street Market. That earlier project gives the retailer another documented connection to her work before the new Fall Winter space.

The footwear collaboration applied Baumeister's approach to two named running silhouettes. The current photographs concentrate on a store environment and a broader clothing presentation. Those are separate arrivals, but Dover Street Market is a concrete link between them.

The new installation does not need to reproduce a sneaker launch to make that relationship visible. Its rail and wooden panels give the current garments their own setting, while the store's official guide lists Melitta Baumeister among its designers. The space announcement adds a specific place within that larger retail assortment.

The contrast with a temporary capsule is also useful. Palace's Autumn arrival at DSM LA was communicated through a release window and stock at the store. Baumeister's announcement asks viewers to look at the surroundings as part of the arrival.

White Brick Remains Outside the Display

The installation sits against the store's white brick and concrete surfaces, which remain visible around its edges. Pale wood and a narrow metal rail define the collection's immediate area without hiding the larger room.

That boundary gives the photographs two scales. At a distance, the wooden planes identify the space. Closer in, the dark sleeves, curved hems and pale shirts become separate objects along the rail. The fixture can be recognised before the details of any one garment come into focus.

The new Fall Winter 2026 presentation is therefore easiest to understand through its physical arrangement: angular pale panels, a silver rail and black silhouettes with room around them. Dover Street Market's existing brickwork supplies the outer frame, while Baumeister's clothes provide the softer shapes inside it.
