Jordan Tatum 5 Sunrise Reaches US Stores October 15

The Jordan Tatum 5 "Sunrise" reaches US retail on Thursday, October 15, 2026, three weeks after China got it first on September 24. Jordan Brand is selling it under the line lock in to lift off, and what is on the foot is more specific than the slogan. It is Jayson Tatum's fifth signature shoe, the first in the line with a strap, and it carries five small marks on the right heel that record the Achilles rupture that ended his 2025 playoffs.

A Strap Under the Laces, a First for the Line

The Tatum 5 adds a dynamic utility strap, which Jordan Brand describes as containment without unnecessary weight. The strap runs underneath the laces to lock the foot down, and a molded rubber wrap rises from the sole unit at the midfoot into the upper to do the same job from the outside. That is two lockdown systems on one shoe, one over the foot and one around it.

Underfoot, the shoe uses a 10mm forefoot Air Zoom unit and a HART 2.0 rubber outsole with a herringbone traction pattern. The heel is structured, and the heel clip is shaped like Tatum's number 0 and the Gateway Arch in his hometown of St. Louis.

Jordan Brand unveiled the shoe on September 9, 2026, ahead of the 2026 to 2027 NBA season.

Five Marks on the Right Heel

Tatum told Complex that five lines on the right heel acknowledge the scar from his Achilles injury. The marks are small and sit on the heel, the part of the foot the surgery repaired, and they are a reminder of the career altering injury he suffered in the 2025 playoffs.

The number 0 on the heel has been redesigned and references the Gateway Arch. Between the arch and the five lines, the heel carries two pieces of biography: where Tatum is from, and what he came back from.

Sunrise Over Boston, Sunset to Follow

The first colorway, Sunrise, style code IO1746 401, is built on Bright Concord purple with pink accents across the upper and sole, and the design takes its idea from a sunrise over Boston. A grade school version, IO1744 401, is listed alongside it. Sneakers Cartel says Jordan Brand has confirmed the launch through Jordan.com and select Jordan retailers, though some outlets point to Nike channels as well. Price reports conflict between outlets, so none is quoted here. Nike says full family sizing began September 24 in China with a global release to follow. The October 15 date for Sunrise comes from Sneaker News, Sneakerfiles and Nice Kicks, and Sneakerfiles and Sole Retriever both list the Sunset pair for Holiday 2026.

Sunset follows in Holiday 2026, pairing a mostly black upper with red and orange accents that evoke a Boston sunset, and its tongues reference Tatum's sons. A third colorway, Laser, was shown at a media preview with tattoo inspired graphics and has no date. Coverage notes further colors are expected in 2027, none named yet.

That is the sequence: sunrise in October, sunset for the holidays and a third pair held back.

Ten Months From Rupture to Mavericks

The injury behind the heel marks happened in Game 4 of the 2025 Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks, where Tatum ruptured his right Achilles tendon. He had surgery the next day and made his season debut almost ten months later, starting in Boston's 120 to 100 home win over the Dallas Mavericks with 15 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. The Celtics were 41 and 21 when he returned.

The Knicks went on to win the 2026 title, and Boston has since changed shape. The Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the 76ers on July 1, 2026, for Paul George and four draft picks, which leaves Tatum as Boston's lead star and, as of today, the face of a strapped shoe with a scar on the heel.

Jordan Brand's October also included the Air Jordan 1 High OG Royal, which came out on October 10 as the first traditional leather Royal since 2017. That was a retro in smooth leather. The Tatum 5 is the opposite kind of release, a new design with a strap, built around a player who is still writing his own history in the line.
