Ferrari's Tailor Made SF90 XX Spider Wears Nero Galaxy

Nero Galaxy is not a paint you can rush. Ferrari's colour and trim team mixes it to a matte finish that shows every seam in the bodywork, which means the panel gaps on this SF90 XX Spider have to be closer to perfect than on a car headed for a glossy topcoat. Matte paint has nowhere to hide a bad line.

This particular Spider came out of the Ferrari Tailor Made programme, the client commissioning route that lets a buyer redraw a production Ferrari down to the stitching, and it belongs to the Scuderia Collection, one of the Atelier's standing template lines for clients who want a starting point rather than a blank page. The brief here reads simple and executes hard: matte black paired with yellow that behaves like a signature, not a stripe.

599 Spiders, One Nero Galaxy Commission

Ferrari built the SF90 XX Spider in a run of 599 cars, and every one of them was already spoken for before this commission reached the paint shop. Every unit shares the same drivetrain and aerodynamic package, so the Tailor Made programme is where an owner's car stops looking like everyone else's.

The Tailor Made route traces back to Maranello in the 1950s, when every Ferrari sports car was effectively bespoke by default. Ferrari now runs three Ateliers, in Maranello, New York, and Shanghai, where clients choose paint, leather, Alcantara, and carbon fibre finish one sample at a time before a single panel is painted.

Nero Galaxy Is Matte by Deliberate Choice

Nero Galaxy is a matte black finish, and matte is a decision that costs the paint shop more labour, not less. A matte topcoat cannot be buffed out to hide an error, so the surface prep underneath has to be nearly flawless before the colour goes on at all.

Ferrari has sold this same moodboard before. A Stradale sibling from the same programme went the opposite direction, exposing raw carbon fibre under Giallo Modena pinstripes instead of hiding it under paint. This Spider commits fully to matte, which is the harder material argument to make: restraint costs more than showing off the weave.

The Scuderia Collection Draws a Dark Line

The Scuderia Collection is a Tailor Made template built around contrast and motion lines rather than one loud accent colour. On this Spider, a dark constellation of Blazing Yellow accents follows the car's character lines from the front lid air intakes back through the side skirts.

The Nero DS spoiler stays in the same dark family as the bodywork, which is the quieter decision. Ferrari saves the one gloss surface on the whole exterior for a single Blazing Yellow logo on the rear spoiler, so the only shine on the car marks the one place designers want your eye to stop.

A Stradale Wears Carbon, This Spider Wears Matte

The SF90 XX Stradale keeps its bodywork rigid and closed, and Ferrari used that fixed surface for the exposed carbon fibre and pinstripe treatment on the coupe commission. The Spider drops the closed roofline, and the colour and trim team carried the accent story past the paintwork into the cabin itself.

A closed coupe can treat its whole shell as one canvas. An open cabin puts the upholstery on display next to the paint every time the roof comes down, so the interior has to hold up its half of the argument.

Inside, Yellow Returns as Alcantara

Inside this Spider, Ferrari's Bestweight seats are trimmed in asymmetric black and Giallo Modena Revo, both finished in Alcantara. Bestweight is Ferrari's lightweight seat shell, and the asymmetric split means the black and the yellow trade sides rather than mirroring each other.

The commissioning process for a seat like this reads closer to a couture fitting than a car order. A client sits in the Atelier surrounded by leather and Alcantara swatches, choosing stitching and trim one sample at a time until the combination belongs to no one else.

You Won't Find This XX on a Track Day

Ferrari's XX badge originally marked cars built strictly for the track, with no road registration offered at all. The SF90 XX Spider borrows that badge along with stiffened suspension, revised aerodynamics, and retuned exhaust resonators, but it stays road legal, which is what makes a Tailor Made commission possible in the first place.

Under the paint, the Spider runs a twin turbo 3.9 litre V8 paired with three electric motors for a combined 1,016 horsepower, sent through an eight speed dual clutch gearbox. Ferrari lists zero to 62 mph in 2.3 seconds and a top speed beyond 200 mph.
