DENIM TEARS' DROP TWO IS FRONTED BY RAPPER P3EZY

Denim Tears is opening its second drop of the André Leon Talley season on a rapper who was posting outfit photos before he was posting songs. Drop Two arrives Friday, September 4 at 11 AM EST on DENIMTEARSDOTCOM, at African Diaspora Goods on 176 Spring Street, and at the brand's Atlanta residency in Lenox Square, fronted by the Atlanta artist P3ezy.

The casting is the story here. Drop One leaned on Andre Walker, a designer with four decades of archive credibility. Drop Two hands the same Talley inheritance to someone who has been in the public eye for barely two years.

Denim Tears releases Drop Two on September 4 at 11 AM EST, live at the same time on DENIMTEARSDOTCOM and in person at African Diaspora Goods, the brand's SoHo store at 176 Spring Street, and its standing residency at Lenox Square in Atlanta. The three point rollout repeats the exact release pattern Denim Tears used for Drop One on August 14, when the collection first went live as the first apparel line ever authorized by the André Leon Talley Estate.

P3ezy Modeled Before He Rapped

P3ezy, also known as Payusu Njie, built his following in fashion before he built one in music, a path that runs backward from most of Denim Tears' recent casting. The Atlanta based artist, who has Gambian and Senegalese heritage, spent his early online years posting outfit photography and modeling, picking up work connected to Hedi Slimane and Mowalola according to his own public bio, before releasing his rap debut track HEDIS BUSSIN.

That single pulled attention from Playboi Carti's circle, with fans tracking his repeated appearances around Carti's Opium camp as a signal he could be tied to Carti's YVL label. None of that is confirmed by either camp, but it explains why a two season old streetwear label chose a musician still building his catalog over an established face for a campaign built on a Vogue editor's legacy. P3ezy is also tied to the ØWAY collective, the kind of loose, self assembled crew structure that has replaced the traditional label deal for a lot of artists breaking out of fashion circles rather than studio sessions.

Drop One Was Andre Walker. Drop Two Is Someone Half His Age

Talley called Andre Walker an unsung genius years before the estate cast him in Drop One, a designer who has produced fewer than 1,000 garments across four decades by his own count. Putting P3ezy in the same season, in the same rollout window, in the same two cities, is Tremaine Emory arguing that Talley's taste ran forward as much as it ran backward, toward whoever was next rather than only who came before.

Drop One shipped a $398 Wreath Monogram Trench Coat and a $238 Faux Astrakhan Track Jacket built from Talley's own 1990s and 2000s wardrobe. Drop Two has not itemized its garments yet, only its date, its cities, and its face.

Denim Tears has run this exact naming discipline all year, a new chapter title every few weeks rather than one seasonal drop with a single press cycle. Each chapter gets its own casting logic, which is why Drop One could lean on a designer's four decade archive and Drop Two can lean on a rapper with one single.
