Key Points

The KINTO for Carhartt WIP Kakomi donabe is a 2,500 ml ceramic pot in Black/Grey that goes on a flame, in an oven or in a microwave and comes with a stainless steel steam plate in the box. Carhartt WIP says it is available now in Europe at its stores and online, and that a US release date will follow.

A Donabe Built From Ceramic, Not Clay

A donabe is a Japanese clay pot, and this one is made from heat resistant ceramic instead, which is what lets it handle direct flame, microwave and oven. It is also dishwasher safe, and the caption sells it for steaming, simmering and slow stewing, on the stove or at the table.

Gear Patrol headlined its coverage "Forget Rugged Jackets. Carhartt Now Sells Heritage Cookware" and framed the link through the donabe's centuries old history, not through Carhartt's own origins. Hypebeast titled its piece around the same idea, that the Japanese clay pot has been put to work. Neither piece gives a European or US release date beyond the brand's own copy.

Hypebeast read the change as a shift in attitude: instead of treating the donabe as a delicate heirloom piece, the collaboration rebuilds it as a hardwearing kitchen tool that moves between cooking methods with minimal fuss. For a workwear label whose pitch has always been durability, that is the right brief for a pot.

27.5 by 14.5 by 31.5 Centimetres

Carhartt WIP's own product page lists the pot at 27.5 by 14.5 by 31.5 cm with a capacity of 2,500 ml, about 85 ounces. It carries a graphic print, and Urban Star Roma's listing adds that the Carhartt logo sits on top.

The steam plate is the piece that changes how the pot is used. Gear Patrol points to it as the feature for vegetables and dumplings, which turns a stew pot into a two level steamer without a second vessel. Hypebeast notes it is included in the box.

The cooking it is built for is slow and shared. The caption talks about steaming, simmering and slow stewing at the table, and KINTO's own story of the Kakomi line puts the aim in one sentence: "Through KAKOMI, I hope to encourage people to enjoy pot dishes more casually."

KINTO Designed It, Carhartt WIP Printed It

The Kakomi is a KINTO product first. KINTO is a Japanese lifestyle brand that makes water bottles, kitchenware and specialist coffee products, and the pot was designed by KINTO Japan. The Kakomi line was designed by KINTO's product designer Fumie Shibata of Design Studio S, who said in a designer message dated January 31, 2025 that she aimed for something that does not look traditional.

The two labels have worked together before. Their earlier piece was a custom water bottle in copolyester, and KINTO's journal notes that Carhartt WIP has partnered with other brands since 2010, including A.P.C., Converse, Fragment Design, Junya Watanabe and Nike. Carhartt WIP's accessories already stretch to food, too: the Lunch Bag has been in its catalog since at least December 2021.

The launch itself came in Europe first, where the pot went on sale on October 3, 2026.

The Premium Over KINTO's Own Pot Buys a Plate and a Print

Urban Star Roma lists the Carhartt WIP pot at 225 euros, while KINTO Europe sells its standard 2.5L Kakomi in white at 165 euros. That is a 60 euro gap, about 36 percent, between two different sellers, so it is a rough guide and not a like for like quote.

In the United States the gap shows up around the plate. KINTO's US site sells the standard white 2.5L pot for $162.80 and lists the steam plate separately, while Carhartt WIP's US page shows the Black/Grey version at $255, marked final sale and still Coming Soon. KINTO's US page also says not to use the standard pot on induction cooktops, and Carhartt WIP's copy does not address induction.

The verdict is a conditional buy. The extra money pays for a print, a logo and a steam plate that KINTO does not include in the US, so it is fair if you want all three. If you cook on induction, check before you order, and if you live in the US, the pot is a wait until Carhartt WIP names a date.
