Lionel Messi is #2 on the FO Pulse (2026-07-17 close).

Worth Talking About episode 9, hosted by Whest Cornell for Finally Offline, previews the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026. The episode centers on the Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal storyline: in 2007 a Diario Sport and UNICEF charity raffle let Yamal's family win a photo shoot with a Barcelona player, and the resulting image shows a 20 year old Messi bathing six month old Yamal at Camp Nou. Nineteen years later Yamal is 19, wears number 19 for Spain, and faces Messi in a final played on the 19th. Messi wore 19 at his own first World Cup in 2006.

Key Points

Worth Talking About is Finally Offline's weekly culture segment, hosted by Whest Cornell. This week the subject picked itself: the 2026 World Cup final, Argentina against Spain, on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.

Whest calls it the end of one of the greatest World Cups we have seen. Great goals, real drama, VAR in the middle of all of it, and on top of that a storyline nobody would have believed if you pitched it.

Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal have met before. In 2007, Diario Sport and UNICEF ran a charity raffle where ordinary families could win a photo shoot with a Barcelona player. Yamal's parents entered. They won. The player was Messi, then 20 years old, and the photo that came out of the Camp Nou dressing room is Messi giving a six month old Lamine Yamal a bath.

Nineteen years later the baby in that plastic tub is a 19 year old wearing number 19 for Spain, and he is standing across from the man holding him in the picture. Messi wore 19 himself at his first World Cup in 2006, where he arrived as an 18 year old and turned 19 during the tournament. The final falls on the 19th.

As Whest puts it, the odds are amazing. It looks like the stars lined up for this one.

Argentina versus Spain. Whest wants to know who you have.

Hey, it's Whest and we're back with another episode of Worth Talking About for Finally Offline.

The World Cup comes to an end. Tomorrow's final between Argentina and Spain will end one of the greatest World Cups we've ever seen. It has had great goals, drama, VAR technology, and not to mention one of the greatest storylines that one could possibly think of.

Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal's storyline goes way back to when Lamine was a baby. Barcelona had a raffle back in the day for charity where people could enter and potentially have a photo shoot with one of the players. Ironically, that player being Lionel Messi. Lamine Yamal's parents entered the raffle. Lo and behold, they won the raffle, and this picture was spawned from it.

The odds are amazing. They both wore number 19 for their first World Cup. They were both 19 for their first World Cup, and so on and so forth. It looks like the stars lined up for this final to happen tomorrow. Argentina versus Spain.

Let us know who you have in the comments. As always, much love. Peace.
