A denim jacket elsewhere in the line is hand painted rather than printed. A silk shirt carries hand rolled seams, the kind of finishing that adds labor hours a factory pattern line is built to strip out. None of that shows up in a runway photo. It shows up in the hand, and in the price a house is willing to defend when a much faster, much cheaper construction method exists for every one of those three techniques.

Rick Owens made a similar material argument with the SS26 Temple line, pairing GRS certified recycled nylon against silk georgette inside the same drop so buyers could weigh two completely different fiber stories against each other. Vetements is making the opposite comparison. It is not certifying sustainable fiber. Guram Gvasalia called the Spring 2027 collection explicitly anti AI, telling press that quality can only be done by human hands. The same account that posted the SS27 backstage credits, on July 18, asked followers to like the post and comment plus one if they wanted to be a Vetements model, crediting the backstage photography itself to an account called fakebible_3b. A runway built on nineteen hand sewn panels and a casting call that runs through Instagram comments are not in tension. Both are the same argument: that a person, not a system, is doing the deciding.

Britney Spears' sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline, made their runway debut at the Vetements Spring 2027 show, a pop culture surprise bigger than most of the garments.
