Salehe Bembury and Alex Proba are calling the collection Soft Imprints, and it moves Bembury's fingerprint pattern off a shoe sole and onto a floor. The pieces are handmade, the run is capped at those two counts, and the release hour matches the exact slot the pair used for their first collaboration in 2022. This is not a rug company renting a famous name. It is the same design conversation Bembury and Proba started with a set of cushions, now scaled into furniture people will actually walk on.

80 Rugs, 200 Pillows, One Nine Am Slot

Soft Imprints caps its run at 80 handmade rugs and 200 handmade pillows, released at 9am PST on July 16 across SaleheBembury.com and ProbaHome.com. That drop hour is not new. It matches the exact slot Bembury and Proba used for their 2022 Absorbed Language pillow launch on the same two sites. Repeating the exact drop hour is not an accident. It trains the same buyer who set an alarm three years ago to do it again, the same math Finally Offline found when Undefeated hand tufted its own limited run of rugs for its Chapter stores last summer. Rugs finished by hand, piece by piece on a tufting gun, take real studio hours to complete. Eighty of them across two sites is a production ceiling set by the craft, not a marketing number pulled from a spreadsheet.

Alex Proba Has Built in Fabric Since 2013

Alex Proba founded her eponymous studio in 2013 after training in interior architecture and furniture and spatial design, and Soft Imprints is not her first turn translating someone else's language into textile. She first worked with Bembury on Absorbed Language in 2022, a set of hand tufted cushions that paired his organic shapes with her own color blocking. Soft Imprints keeps that same split of labor. Bembury supplies the topography, the raised ridges and pooled color that read like a fingerprint blown up to the size of a floor. Proba supplies the palette and the shape language she has also carried into furniture work. The two designers are not chasing one signature. They are stacking two different ones on the same piece of fabric, which is why the collection reads as a conversation instead of a licensing deal.

$85 Bought the Fingerprint on Your Feet in 2021

Bembury's fingerprint pattern did not start on a rug. It started on the Crocs Pollex Clog, which launched in December 2021 at $85 and was built from three of Bembury's own fingerprints merged into one sole, cut with concave ridges for multi directional traction. That single shoe turned into the Juniper Sneaker and the Cypress Boot, then a slide in 2023. Finally Offline covered BAPE's own colorway run on the Crocs Echo RO Clog earlier this year, proof the clog itself has outgrown any single collaborator. Soft Imprints is the same fingerprint doing a different job. Instead of gripping wet pavement, it holds color on a floor. The shape did not change. The surface it lives on did.

Tufting Turns a Pattern Into a Surface You Feel

Tufted construction is why these pieces read as art instead of decor. A tufting gun punches loops of yarn through a backing cloth from the front, building up a pile that can be carved into raised sections, which is how Soft Imprints gets the same rippled topography Bembury cut into the Pollex sole. It is slower than machine woven production, and that slowness is exactly why furniture and streetwear labels keep reaching for it when they want a limited object instead of a mass one. Travis Scott put a rug into Drop 2 of his UTOPIA merch run in 2023, printed with the album's receipt graphic, and it sold out inside the same kind of scheduled window Bembury and Proba are using here. The technique crosses genres because the economics are identical. Small batch, high labor, a fixed count nobody can quietly reprint.
