BLANK STREET HITS LOS ANGELES WITH BEVERLY HILLS AND STUDIO CITY

By FINALLY OFFLINE | 4/16/2026

Blank Street Coffee is expanding to Los Angeles in summer 2026 with flagship locations in Beverly Hills and Studio City, marking its West Coast debut. The brand, valued at approximately $500 million as of mid-2025, operates 97 locations globally and reported profitability in 2025. LA adds pressure and prestige simultaneously: first real test of the brand beyond its NYC and London home markets.

Key Points

97 locations. 21% US sales growth in 2025. A near-$1 billion raise in early talks. And until now, not a single store west of the Mississippi. Blank Street is coming to Los Angeles. Beverly Hills and Studio City open this summer. West Hollywood and Malibu follow in late fall. The brand that outpaced Starbucks on the streets of London without a drive-through or a loyalty card is betting that the same playbook works on Bedford Drive. ## The Valuation Is the Signal A $500 million company does not choose its first West Coast city casually. Los Angeles was always the frame test that NYC and London could not run. New York proved you could scale a $7 matcha latte in a 400-square-foot space. London proved the model crossed cultures. LA proves whether aspirational coffee can compete with Erewhon smoothies and Urth Caffé nostalgia at the same zip code. The new fundraise, reported in April 2026 as early-stage talks north of $100 million, tells you exactly how serious the board is about this moment. The $149 million in estimated 2025 US revenue is not the number that matters. The near-$1 billion post-money would be. ## Bedford Drive Versus the Matcha Ceiling Blank Street built its early identity around one thing most chains ignored: the matcha drinker who does not want Starbucks. That person exists at scale in Los Angeles and they already have options. Alfred, Go Get Em Tiger, and Maru all operate premium formats in the same zip codes. Blank Street is not arriving to a gap. It is arriving to a competition. The brand's 2025 rebrand quietly signaled the strategy: removing "Coffee" from its visual identity to lead with experience and menu breadth. The Beverly Hills store will need something the NYC kiosk model never required, which is square footage. The plan is already different. Experience-first locations, not the 400-square-foot strip-mall model that launched the brand. That pivot toward larger footprints is what the LA real estate market demands and what the LA consumer expects. ## Blank Street Already Skipped the Warm-Up Blank Street did not enter Boston cautiously, then San Francisco, then LA. It went straight to the highest-income, highest-visibility market on the West Coast. Beverly Hills. Studio City. Two neighborhoods that will make or break a brand's California reputation before the second lease is signed. That directness mirrors how the brand approached London in 2022, opening multiple UK sites simultaneously rather than testing with one. By the time Blank Street had 20 London locations, it had already figured out what the market wanted. The company cannot afford that same learning curve in LA, a market where restaurant and retail brands die in their third quarter with no warning and no ceremony. ## 97 Stores, One Test That Changes the Math LA is not just the next market. It is the proof point for a western US expansion that the company has been building toward since its 2021 founding by Vinay Menda and Issam Freiha in New York. The brand operates 97 global locations as of March 2026. Reaching 150 looks reasonable by the end of 2026 if the LA launch lands. If it does not, the near-$1 billion raise gets harder. The food and beverage industry knows this equation well. Shake Shack spent eight years in New York before it was ready for Madison Square Garden. Blue Bottle took a decade to feel authentic outside Oakland. Blank Street has moved in five years from a Williamsburg corner to Beverly Hills. That compression is either the story of a generation-defining brand or the setup for a very expensive lesson in what California actually wants from a flat white. June will start to answer that.
